Skinny cargos - yay or nay?

RamblingRosa · 16/03/2011 09:06

I tried these on in Uniqlo yesterday and they looked surprisingly good.

But I never liked cargo trousers the first time round and the whole concept of skinny cargos seems a bit ridiculous. Also thought they might be a bit too young for me. Anyone else got some? What do you wear them with?

I have been eyeing these up on the website, don't live near a Uniqlo alas so can't try them on. How did you find the sizing of them?

I like them, I don't think they are for the young only (I'm 38). I'd probably wear them with flats and a not-too-tight t-shirt or a nice blouse. But I ain't no style guru!

I have got some M&S ones ( can't remember if they are Autograph or Limitd Collection ) they are lovely and sold out very quickly in a 10. I had to buy some wedge shoe boots ( sort of like desert boots) to look right with them but I have had lots of compliments. I wear them with a striped top and a Toast Jacket. I am ancient (54) that is neither here nor there.

noddyholder · 16/03/2011 09:57

I like them

blindassassin · 16/03/2011 10:05

They're fab, best trousers I've bought in a long time. In fact, I liked them so much I, er, may have bought them in all four colours Blush.

I'm an 8-10 on the bottom half, 27 in premium denim and size 8 is perfect on me. HTH

RamblingRosa · 16/03/2011 10:06

Thanks. Maybe I'll get some.

Docket the sizing was the same as Uniqlo jeans IMO - that probably doesn't help if you don't have any Uniqlo jeans!

They're snug but stretchy IYSWIM. I'm an 8-10 and I've got Uniqlo jeans in a 26" and a 27" waist. I couldn't get into the 26 but the 27 fitted nicely. They're 33" leg.

Hope that helps!

Oh thanks for that bliindassassin. What do you wear them with? Heels or flats? Top tucked in or loose?

Gah! @ higgle!

I have the M and S in a size 12 - and they are a little too large - 10 were all Sold Out! I can't decide whether to try taking them in, or just take them back. It is all your fault!!

If they don't go back, I'll be treating them like leggings or slim fit jeans. I think they might look nice with T-shirt and short (3/4 length sleeve-style) jacket.

Okay, I really want some now. My finger is hovering over the 'add to bag' button...

blindassassin · 16/03/2011 10:21

Hi RamblingRosa

I think they're really versatile. So far I've worn the beige ones just with flats - leather converse-type pumps, Ash high-tops, tan ankle boots and tucked into slouchy suede biker boots. Think they'd also look good rolled a couple of times with high heeled Hasbeen type clogs. I'm planning to wear the charcoal ones with heels and a floaty blouse for DH's birthday next week.

Tops wise they're good either way. My tummy's gradually getting toned up again so I have been tucking simple fitted tees in and adding a belt.

The chinos are also nice BTW....

I have purchased! I really must stay away from these threads!

RamblingRosa · 16/03/2011 10:52

Ooh I'm jealous docket. I might have to nip and buy some at lunchtime. I love Uniqlo jeans/trousers. They fit so well and they're such a good price.

blindassassin I think if I get some I'll go for the ballet pumps/sandals (if it ever gets warmer)and a simple vest + cardi combo or something. Or maybe a nice tucked in and belted top.

I have the H&M ones and live in them. Wear mine with heels and flats!

dexter73 · 16/03/2011 14:25

I tried some on today but I don't think they are for the pear-shaped Sad.

Millie1 · 16/03/2011 14:44

What are they like on the waist ... are they low-rise? They look lovely but I need a mid-rise.

Thanks

moragbellingham · 16/03/2011 14:46

They are by far the best high st ones from a rear perspective IYSWIM, more flattering to have a bit of detail on the bum(i.e. the pocket flap thing) I think.
True to size I think, but very long on me and not especially skinny all the way down (I have chicken legsSmile).

DonaAna · 16/03/2011 16:04

God created skinny cargos to highlight saddlebags. Fab if you have matchstick legs.

blindassassin · 16/03/2011 17:13

Millie1 - you're in luck, they're a mid rise I'd say. Not too low so as to create dreaded muffin-toppage.

wellwisher · 16/03/2011 17:15

The H&M ones are more or less exact copies of J Brand Houlihans.

I'm going to buy another pair!

moragbellingham · 16/03/2011 17:26

I don't think they're low rise - more a mid-rise, old fashioned normal fit!

Millie1 · 16/03/2011 21:33

Thanks Morag and Blindassasin. Think I'll order a pair. Any colour recommendations?

RamblingRosa · 17/03/2011 08:57

I got some! I got the brown ones (they're a much nicer dark mushroomy grey/brown in the flesh).

They aren't too low cut so no muffin top. Just the right length and fairly slim all the way down (I must have chunkier legs than you moragbellingham :)).

I like them. I also got a really nice denim jacket (£19.99) from Uniqlo and a shirt, some pumps for me and some undies for DD in Gap Blush.

Must stop shopping in my lunchbreak!

OP posts:
fishie · 17/03/2011 14:28

i too have got them! dark grey last ones in shop, although they claim to get more in on Monday. size 12.

They are certainly mid-rise, there's a tiny bit too much material but at least i can tuck my stomach into it.

i will be wearing them with clog boots and stripy tunics.

moragbellingham · 17/03/2011 14:35

The olive is a nice dark colour but more wintery and no hint of grey in them like a true khaki. Others were out of stock in my size so can't comment on those.

fishie · 17/03/2011 15:57

alternative br jeanslook pretty much identical, I was wearing them when tried on uniqlo ones.
