Talk to me about NAILS!

I generally file, polish and paint my own nails. However, have a wedding coming up and want something a bit more special and professional looking.

Had acrylics years ago and liked but there seems to be so many different options now. Please can an expert talk me through them? And does anyone have any recommendations?

I had gel nails for a while, my nails are really naff and weak - with gel nails they paint the gel over your normal nail and then set it under a UV lamp - hey presto, strong nails that actually grow instead of snapping off! I didn't stick with them though as they need re doing every 4 weeks and I lacked the time and money - and this was before the arrival of DD! Plus when I stopped, I went to get the stuff soaked off and my nails were even worse afterwards. But they were ace while I was having them done!
