Flat wedges (platform wedges?)

I am short and I like my footwear to provide me with a little height (no more than 6cm/2.5") whilst still being comfortable as I walk everywere. Wedges of this type kill my feet so I am looking for shoes/sandals that provide me with height but leave my feet fairly flat, so basically, that have a more or less equal height in the platform and heel, which essentially makes it a flat with a bit of lift to the sole. I have seen absolutely nothing of the sort anywhere so I thought someone here might be able to help me? I am not into delicate pretty shoes (probably just as well) but I am almost 40 so equally, I don't want anything too young, e.g. eva foam or a ridiculously chunky heel. If they don't tie around the ankle that would be even better. Thank you all!

I know what you mean, I had a great pair of wedge/platform cork heeled sandals about 6 years ago from new look, only cheap but SO comfortable. They don't do them anymore.
what about fly's
I like these but think they maybe too much of a wedge for you

Jones the Bootmaker has a few nice pairs.

Some nice suggestions but not quite. This one gets quite close but I'd like it higher (around 6cm): www.asos.com/Ugg/Ugg-Brook-Wedge-Sandal/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1450471&utm_source=google_product_search&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=google_product_search

I am looking for a pair of black closed toe shoes with exactly the sole you describe...

Topshop ones are nice if you want sandals- they come in an orangey red with a cork sole too.

I want some like this but more platformy.

They are called "flatforms". Cant say i agree with em on principle...

But they can look ok...

Here is an example - albeit extreme weird

if your feet are narrow, these are comfy. i have a pair, and am also a short arse! the prices of fly london change all the time on amazon, i only paid £30 for mine last summer. they're nice and bouncy to walk on, give a bit of added height but the foot is still quite flat.

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 16/03/2011 07:03

The sandals from Topshop, whilst lovely, are way too high for me to be doing the school run and dragging my children to different activities. I would also really like to avoid the strap around the ankle. They make them a little too dressy plus don't do short people any favours I feel.

Voiceofnoreason, those sandals are just not right, I don't 'agree' with them either!

I quite like Fly London shoes in general (although this particular example has the strap around the ankle). My feet are actually on the wide side. Do you think they might not fit me LucyKate? I notice they don't do free returns!

fly london do run quite narrow. i'd see if you can try some on before ordering, john lewis, schuh and office stock them. if they fit, buy online though as you'll get them cheaper.

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 16/03/2011 08:53

I'll try and do that thanks for advice.

I've seen something similar to what you're describing in Clarks. These

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 16/03/2011 09:28

Hi Rambling, thank you. Pretty shoes, maybe a bit too pretty and dressy. Something like that but toepost and no ankle straps would be so perfect for me!

Search "platform flip flops" on amazon there are lots these are quite plain?

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 16/03/2011 09:51

Actually FauxFox, I like those and I only wish they weren't quite so young. I'm almost 40 and I don't think the eva foam wedge and chunkyness looks right on me for a day to day basis; holiday maybe Hmm

here???

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 16/03/2011 12:04

Ah! Now I'm excited! Actually the perfect platform wedge toe post sandals I had about 6 years ago came from Aldo! These have more of a 'plunge' but they're quite nice.... hmmmmm......
