Does anyone know what the best primer for red/greasy (sounds charming!) skin is? I am getting married in May and want to keep the oil at bay!

this one is very good, i used to be a makeup artist and it would stay put all day...or you could try the colour correcting one. Pop along to your local estee counter and they will do a free trail for you...

oh and ask for a sample of the double wear foundation, it stays put all day (and beyond!) and as it its thicker it will hide the redness and the powder content in the foundation will keep the shine at bay. Congratulations for may! Smile

Maybe a mattifier like this or THIS which is pricey but so worth it, mattifying, exfoliating, evening and radiance boosting. It's amazing stuff. Makes a real difference!

L'oreal Studio Secrets is ver ver good.

HuckingFell · 11/03/2011 11:06

no 7 shine free. use a teeny teeny bit over moisturiser and let it settle before next layer.

valiumredhead · 11/03/2011 12:47

I bought the No 7 one yesterday - not impressed so far. Maybe I used too much HuckingFell?

I nearly bought the L'Oreal one but £15 seemed a bit pricey I had a No 7 voucher

Flowerface · 11/03/2011 13:33

Thanks everyone. I have got the Bobbi Brown one, but I wondered whether it was more of a moisturiser than a primer (if there is even a different between these things. I am a bit of a makeup ignoramus!)

MAC spf 50 prep and prime is amazing for oily skin. Holds your foundation on all day, and has the added bonus of the spf.

HuckingFell · 11/03/2011 20:00

the loreal one is good but not for oil control.

The no 7 one takes a bit of getting used to but is fab at oil/shine control.

southeastastra · 11/03/2011 20:02

there are so many! i like smashbox but havent tried any others

southeastastra · 13/03/2011 11:09

I bought the no7 one yesterday too, made me skin tingly not a patch on the smashbox one imo anyway

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/03/2011 11:22

Ysl do a mattifying primer, it's not well known but I have greasy skin and it kept me matt all day when we got married. Plus I had a fake bake tan because I find it counteracts the redness. I didn't need powder on the day but I used it only once before the wedding so my skin didn't get used to it.

Avoid SPFs on the day, they react with the photographers flash and make your face look paler than the rest of you.

Anyone tried the Estee Lauder one? It's called something like Skin Primer Plus Smoothing.....?

It's in a blue tube and is £20.

Anyone tried? Makeupalley rave about it.

barbie1 · 14/03/2011 12:04

I have used it a number of times and its very, very good. Ask at your local counter to try some on before you buy it.

A little goes a very long way with this product, so it last ages.

Thanks barbie1.
