What Foundation Do You Use/ Recommend?

I know everybody's skin is different but my skin seems to have changed and I need help finding a foundation as nothing I've tried recently is any good.

Its now slightly more oily so I guess combination skin, I don't like it to look matte I prefer more radiant/dewy appearance with medium to strong coverage.

I love Laura Mercier moisturising and creme smooth foundations but they don't even last my tube ride to work and the primer gives me spots. I need something that lasts at least a good few hours.

What do you wear or recommend?

Clarins do a lovely "dewy" foundation called True Radiance in lots of different shades. About £22, but you hardly need any at all, so it lasts a while.

I'd also recommend Maz Factor's Age-renewing - slightly drier than the Clarins one, but flawless coverage (the "age renewing" name doesn't refer to it having anti-ageing stuff in it, rather that is smooths out fine lines). Also cheaper too (tenner I think?)

NoWayNoHow · 10/03/2011 17:05

Sorry, the Max Factor one is actually called "Age Renew"

Thanks! To be honest I probably need the anti-ageing aspect so I'll have a look at the Max Factor.

Think I'm going to spend a good bit of time in John Lewis or Selfridges and look at all my options.

Also I must try and remember not to be so easily swayed by the salesgirls- they're never right but I always seem to believe them Blush

Id try Estee Lauder Doublewear Light. The original DoubleWear is the longest lasting foundation out there buts lots ofpeople find it a bit heavy. The new Light version is just as long lasting but gives a medium rather than full coverage. Ive wasted hundreds of quid over the years on foundations that dont last til 10am, DoubleWear is unbeatable, lasts all day.

estee Lauder usually give you a sample pot which lasts a few days, saves expensive mistakes (think dior, chanel etc do the sample pots too btw)

WellIShouldNever · 10/03/2011 18:14

MAC, well worth the £15 odd quid it costs.

DonaAna · 10/03/2011 18:35

Doublewear Light is OK but even their lightest shade is too tan/orange for me. Diorskin Forever and Diorskin Nude are the best medium to full coverage foundations I've found. I second asking for tiny sample spots - you can test before committing.

DonaAna · 10/03/2011 18:36

sample pots not spots obviously Grin

Mirrorball · 10/03/2011 18:40

Clarins have discontinued true radiance, new one to replace it is called Skin Illusion. I was a massive true radiance fan and this one is good but not quite as good!

otchayaniye · 10/03/2011 18:47

Dewy finish (I actually think it has too much silicone and slip if anything), I think among the best and easiest to get would be Chanel Vitalumiere or Prolumiere

Something with less coverage but still not matt, Mac Face and Body or Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser

Something cheap and very dewy, the MyFace ones in Boots.

phooey · 10/03/2011 18:57

Noooo have Clarins discontinued True Radiance?

Angry

I don't wear it every day but love it. Grrr.

RubyFakeNails · 10/03/2011 19:05

Sample pots are such a good idea! Am definitely going to ask for lots tomorrow. Have wasted so much recently even DP is starting to comment on amount of 'face crap' on the bank statement.

Mac face and body foundation is the best I've ever tried.

lulalullabye · 10/03/2011 19:09

Try bobbi brown too they do one in s glass bottle that sounds exactly what you want.

beijingaling · 10/03/2011 19:25

I have one blended at the London www.cosmeticsalacarte.com shop then I buy refills online. You can get full coverage, medium, or light or dewy or mix. Mine is a light dewy one so just smooths my colour instead of giving me a blank canvas. Very worth while if you can get to London.

MrsSeanBean · 10/03/2011 19:26

Chanel Vita Lumiere

cabbageroses · 10/03/2011 20:05

Clinique Repair Wear or Even Better foundations.

Clarins have a "stay put" one worth looking at.

otchayaniye · 10/03/2011 21:04

I also use a mineral one, laura merciers

Onynx · 13/03/2019 01:25

Bumping as I'm in the same predicament🙈 The Skin Illusion just does nothing for my skin. The true radiance was amazing. I have the Everlasting one too but that's really more suited to night time for me. First world problems but I'm gutted. What about Clinique foundations - are they any good?

Gothamgirl1970 · 13/03/2019 08:48

Second vote for double wear light

JinglingHellsBells · 13/03/2019 09:06

Clinique have just brought out a new version of their Even Better which is full coverage and long wear- in a tube.

I'd also suggest you look at Bobbi Brown Long Wear.

Have you tried using a primer under your foundation or a light loose powder on top?

Elllllle · 13/03/2019 09:34

This is my current mission - to.find something that lasts on my combo acne prone skin. My current regime is: bioderma sebium, l'oreal pro matte (or for s occasions, smashbox or illamasqua), finished by nars powder (or banana powder in winter when I'm really pale). If you really need it to last, "thisworks" camera ready primer is the bomb

Elllllle · 13/03/2019 09:35

^^ I should add, all of these combos are great, especially if being photographed

Elllllle · 13/03/2019 09:38

And double wear is shit. I challenge all.the lovers of eldw to have their photo taken or look at themselves under down lights and still love this foundation

macnab · 13/03/2019 14:03

Hi OP I just posted this on another 'foundation' thread, might be of interest to you you.

I got a sample of the new Boots No7 "HydraLuminous Moisturising Foundation" am wearing it today and it's lovely. It went on well, great coverage and is wearing well since I applied it at 7am. I have been using their Lift & Luminate foundation but I think I'll move on to this one now, I really like it.
