Apparently they're no longer accepting them on tops (well, according to the MSE thread full of irate people phoning head office).

Bummer I have one I got specially to get one of their stripy tops. I went in and they had none - I was in a hurry so didn't ask. I got a really nice grey wrap style top with one voucher already. I hope they sort it out as that is seriously crap.

carlywurly · 08/03/2011 12:57

Looks like it's now sorted. I got a stripy top a couple of weeks back and still have another card.

Tbh the only things I would have bought were those tops, the rest of the store was utterly hideous.

I was so disappointed when I went in to have a look - the whole shop looked like a politician's wardrobe had exploded in there.

A poster from MSE sent this e-mail to them:

' "Dear Sir/Madame,
I have to commend you on the brilliant service you offer for your customers. Often in an up-market store such as yours, you can feel slightly inferior but this is most certainetly not the case at Hobbs.
I was very pleased to see the £25 free spend voucher you are currently offering in 'Red' magazine and yet again I commend you and your store for this absoloutley amazing offer that you are offering.
However I'm finding it hard to understand as to why you have today updated your terms and conditions now saying your customers are no longer allowed to purchase any items from the 'tops' section.
I wouldn't mind this as much, but when I had used one of these gift vouchers on your £25 'Ava' camisole, in one of your stores, the checkouteer told me to go back to a newsagents to purchase as many copys of the 'Red' magazine as I could because then I would be getting brilliant quality camisoles for just the price of the magazines, as the terms and conditions will never change.
So thinking I would get a brilliant bargain I bought ten more of the 'Red' Magazines, but due to living in the country-side I have to go to the city for my local Hobbs store so I haven't had the chance to use them.
Just like many other people I don't have the money to spend £44 extra at the bare minimal and just wanting to take advantage of a good bargain has left me ending up wasting £36 which has put me in a really tough financial spot.
I rang up your customer services earlier to obtain answers and was discusted at how uncomfortable your staff made me feel as the woman I spoke to kept pausing to have a right laugh with her fellow colleage.
I would like answers for your actions and also a possibility of re-embursment for my wasted magazines.
I must say I'm very dissapointed and this has definitely left me with a bitter taste in my mouth regarding your stores.

Yours Faithfully,"

This is what I wrote last night at 6.30pm. Then they sent me a an automated reply saying that on thursdays the queries team will reply from 9.30am-5pm so fingerscrossed I will soon get a reply.

I must say the woman I phoned was very rude, she was laughing and repeating obviously about 10 times in every sentence.

Get emailing ladies! '

So, there you go.

Yeah, it was definitely workwear for people who work in very formal environments and want to flash a little colour. NW3 is nice, but seems so expensive for what it is.

Mippy if you had actually read the whole thread you will have seen that actually Hobbs had back-pedalled and you were now allowed to buy tops again. The new gripe appears to be Hobbs stockpiling the cheaper tops in their store rooms so people can't buy them with the cards. You can still buy tops.

SummerLightning · 12/03/2011 21:33

Well if anyone is still reading this, I went into hobbs today and got my stripy top, they had loads, and they were very friendly - there were no quibbles. They had lots of the other cheaper tops too, and someone in front of me in the queue was getting a 19 quid vest top for free. This was in the Cambridge store.

phooey · 12/03/2011 21:35

Yikes! I'm heading out tomorrow to spend mine before all the cheaper nicer tops sell out.

MaeMobley · 13/03/2011 11:41

Is there a "use by date" on the voucher?

mamatomany · 13/03/2011 17:57

You bought 10 copies of the magazine, not really in the spirit of the offer is it ?

shopalot · 13/03/2011 18:35

My card ends 2nd May I think

phooey · 13/03/2011 19:04

Humph. I found a lovely bright orange silk and linen woven t-shirt, really lovely and £49 - more than I'd planned on spending but it was gorge. Anyway the woman was wrapping it up, complimenting my choice the way shop assistants are trained to Smile and another member of staff came over and said 'ooh no, you can't spend it on that range' Shock

It was apparently in the Limited Collection range, which they said you couldn't spend it on Sad

I tried on the stripey tops but they were all a bit meh, nice fabric but funny cuts that didn't suit me. I got vexed and left with nothing.
