Old evening dresses - what to do with them? Do they ever come back into style?

I have quite a few evening and cocktail length dresses hanging in my wardrobe.

What do you do with them? I need to do a clear out but have hung onto them for years on the grounds that they are 'special'.

Ebay? Sell them to someone to use as fabric? A couple are almost vintage.

Does anyone have similar dress issues?

I might have occasional need to go to a dressy event but only every couple of years, plus I wore a couple of these dresses when I was 18 and I am now 35....

Get rid of them.
You know that the moment they go then you will get loads of invitations to posh events.Grin

I have kept all mine. I tend to get classical styles so they still look OK years later. DD has even borrowed one (high praise!)

do you have any daughters? I have worn a few of my mum's old dresses in my time; there are some she kept that I didn't ever wear, but you never know which ones it'll be.

I've kept mine for DD. One hand is crossed she'll wear them as vintage, the other hand is resigned that they'll end up in her DD's dressing up box.

I should ebay them really. I should. But oh, the faff of it.

Agree with Seth, my mum kept all hers and my sister and I have worn them in the past, and my Grandmother passed an exceptionally beautiful black satin beaded dress to my sister which she had altered and shortened into a cocktail dress and it looked great.

OK, I will keep and 'archive' the most special. Even though I have a DS I do have a niece who might be interested in the future.

Ebay or charity shop the others.

Thanks.

I would keep them, but I'm a terrible hoarder at the best of times! :)

I would keep, assuming you can still fit into them, there's no way I could squeeze into a dress that fitted me at 18!
