Shu Uemura face architect foundation

Having trawled the beauty counters last week to find a new foundation which gives good coverage without looking cakey, (Clarins usually my max splurge brand - but at £23 their equivalent was very disappointing).

Can anyone tell me if it's worth the splurge (lasts forever) or recommend cheaper alternatives?

Thanks!

Well, MAC do a nice equivalent. It's called Studio Sculpt, it gives really good coverage and a little goes a very long way. It doesn't look cakey if applied well (especially with a brush). It also promises that lifting effect that Face Architect is supposed to give.

I've not tried Face Architect myself but I had a friend who worked for Shu Uemura and she said it looked really good but only if applied with a brush.

Thanks Havingkittens - am actually trying to move away from MAC as I'm not finding it has the best staying power! I know what your friend means about applying with a brush - looked much better on in the store than when i tried myself (without a brush) with the sample I brought home.

Well, you'll have seen it mentioned here countless times but Estee Lauder Doublewear gives fantastic coverage and has good staying power. Doesn't do the lifting thing though it that's one of the things you were after. Also Lancome's Teint Idole Ultra which also has great coverage and is long lasting too.

Estee Lauder is a bit too heavy - used to use that one pre-kids. I am asking for the world! Thanks for the Lancome recommendation - someone in RL also mentioned it so am investigating!!
