If you are a generous 14 this Whistles dress is so flattering.

I just went to take a dress back to swop and I tried this (and practically everything else in the shop on) in a 14. I have a generous pair of boobs and it looked gorgeous.

It looks really plain but in reality its lovely and floaty, its a very flattering shade of blue, not quite navy.

In the end, I never got it, I decided to keep the one I was taking back!! I wouldve lost my discount otherwise and I already have a similar coloured dress. I would recommend it if you arent a skinny minny though.

Ohhhh I like it.

Emo76 · 05/03/2011 18:46

I like that too. Will look out for it to try on. Do you think it would work for work wear or is it a bit floaty? Is the V neck very deep?

kittya · 05/03/2011 19:14

Work? god, you must have a glam job!! The arms are shearer then the body. I wouldve worn it with tan heels to go out in. I have afew Whistles dresses in a similiar style (great for boobs) and I generally wear a cami under but, for my new one I am just going to put a stitch in. The assistant said thats what most people tend to do.

Btw, this is the one I kept. Also very flattering www.johnlewis.com/160067/Style.aspx

What a great thing to post - love these kind of specific suggestions!

It's very nice but, unfortunately out of my budget Smile.

I've just bought this though which also fits the 'suits size 14s with boobs' category and it's an absolute bargain -

house of fraser on ebay

kittya · 05/03/2011 19:23

What a bargain you got there!! Smile

washngo · 05/03/2011 19:30

Gorgeous gorgeous dress but now I want it and can't have it booooo. Unless I bought the winning lottery ticket at the coop earlier in which case I'll be off to buy half of john lewis at first light.

kittya · 05/03/2011 19:39

I posted the 20% off voucher afew days ago. Its ran out now Sad.

It is very nice. I tried it in the actual shop. I never go to Whistles in John Lewis, its hidden away in mine.

Emo76 · 05/03/2011 19:41

oh kittya my job isn't glam, just need to be smart for meetings and feel boxed in in a suit!

kittya · 05/03/2011 19:47

Its quite short, depending on how tall you are! Smile you definitely would have to wear a camisole under it for work!

kittya,
i think you are the reason i went and tries on those whistles dresses as i remembered someone on mumsnet saying they suited the generously endowed! i have the exact same blue dress as the link and can confirm its my fave dress i have ever bought. Anyone who is wondering
whether to try these dresses on, just go and do it, you wont regret it!
(insert grateful to kittya emoticon). now, however i want the other one you linked to!!

kittya · 05/03/2011 20:54

Ha!!! Im so pleased you like it. I love, love Whistles dresses. I have about five and they are so flexible, they are worth every penny. I can only wear this style from there though. I just find that they are great when you have grown out of Warehouse but arent ready for M&S. Did you use the voucher? The other one is very flattering and I decided to keep it but I will be keeping an eye on the blue one, if there are anymore voucher codes!!

Im really pleased. Did you see those gorgeous pleated skirts? If I was ten years younger I would definitely have bought one.

dinkydoos · 05/03/2011 20:58

no, i bought at full price then saw your thread about the voucher and frankly couldnt be arsed to take back and re buy.... is that animal print one the one you said had pockets as cant tell from pic? do the pockets work ok? and no, havent seen the skirts, just darent!

kittya · 05/03/2011 21:05

You know I took it back today and I tried on everything in the shop. Then I went back to the original animal print and the sales assistant was so kind and honest she just said, I think you should keep the one you are bringing back. Wasnt that good? if I'd have swopped I wouldve lost the discount and ended up paying another £50. You hardly notice the pockets. I love the big pockets at the sides. I will wear it with thick black tights I think. Not sure about shoes yet.

mmmmm. feel another trip to JL afoot......:)

kittya · 05/03/2011 21:56

check online to see if they have it in stock, it says they dont but there are loads on their own Whistles site. Tbh if the blue looks perfect then the print one will be exactly the same.

Gogopops · 06/03/2011 09:40

Love the animal print one. Looks good with the leggings.

May to to JL later today.

gregssausageroll · 06/03/2011 09:52

Such beautiful dresses but is anyone else disappointed that they stop at a 16!?

Do people actually buy every-day dresses that are dry clean only? Your dry cleaning bills must be horrendous, and I don't feel dry cleaned stuff is properly clean - especially when it often doesn't get out water based stains.

coldcomfortHeart · 06/03/2011 11:16

I tried this dress on in its summer version (short sleeves) before I got pregnant and was a size 8, and it's so flattering and lovely in that size too. I loooved it but even when it went into the sale couldn't afford it (plus was hoping to get pg!)

I'm delighted to see they're still doing it and will try and save up for one...

Butterbur in reality very little has to be dry cleaned (wool suits I would stick to). The dress is 100% silk, totally hand (I do real hands in the sink, not machine hand wash cycle!) washable with tiny bit of mild detergent. Hand washing always takes less time than I think it will too, it's not such a big hassle IMO.

kittya · 06/03/2011 11:18

TSC don't you be out in Manchester on Friday night wearing yours!!! I don't mind that they are dry clean as I get three for a tenner and I don't wear them during the day

OP posts:
kittya · 06/03/2011 11:21

Go be fair they have them every season, just with different colours/material. Which is great when you find something that suits you.
