Saturday night out in London

DH and I have a night out in London on Saturday, will just be casual meal and a few bars, but I've no idea what to wear. I'm feeling do old and out of touch, I used to do this all the time 10 years ago. Anyway, what do people wear to go out in London on a Saturday night, I want trendy, but not looking like I'm trying too hard. I'm mid 30's 5'6, apple shaped, size 14-16 (more at the latter end).

I've just bought some skinny jeans from New Look so fancy wearing them, I was thinking about these shoes from next

Next shoes

and this dress as a tunic top, but am I completely off the money?

top

help!

PS thanks for those who helped with the dress to match purple shoes a little while ago, in the end I found something in a sort of mondrian style from house of fraser

TBH I wouldn't wear jeans for a night out anymore. I go out so rarely that I want to dress up and wear a skirt or a dress.
I may be wrong here, or maybe it's just the London that I venture into these daysGrin but I don't see many jeans on a Saturday night.

Depends where you're going? Centre of town? East end?

moragbellingham · 03/03/2011 16:27

I've also reached that age where I don't go anywhere where I can't sit down. Strictly old git territory these days (prob why there's no jeans!!!

Truffkin · 03/03/2011 16:35

I think it really depends on where you are going as I tend to go out in East London and jeans are very much the 'uniform' whereas in the centre of town it's more dressy.

I imagine we will end up in soho, maybe marylebone, unlikely to be east end. I will want to try and sit down (can't stand up in heels for too long cause my feet will hurt emotion).

Oh got if it is not jeans what can I wear? I'm far too old and apple shaped for some body con dress, tea dresses don't feel evening enough for me and Boden doesn't seem to say Saturday night in London!

you can wear jeans,as long a you have something fab on top, great jacket/fashionable blouse.

Clure · 03/03/2011 18:36

I would say go for skinny jeans, you will feel comfortable in them as you have already a mind to wearing them. i would second hifi suggestion of wearing something fab on top. There are lots of lovely little chiffon blouses around
Also, how about this for something a bit different

Right will try and search a chiffon blouse, I do like some of the chiffon dresses but worry I will look more like Vera duckworth than Nicola Roberts.

I do like that Topshop top but am worries about bingo wings, and now realise I can't wear a waterfall cardie with it :)

Your dress is lovely. I was out in Camden last night and saw some very cool young things wearing white lace dresses so you are not as out of touch as you think !. I think the dress will look beautiful worn as a dress rather than as a tunic with jeans however. I would also wear different shoes because you are on a date and your shoes are not the type of shoes that men usually understand. Have a great evening.
