obsessed with this cardigan!

i recently fell in lust with a cardigan i found on ebay - i bid and bid up to my limit but was beaten by someone with more cash. :(

i found a second one and was again e-sniped at the last second, damnit. it transpires that said cardi is circa 2009 and sold out in the shops - i sent the designers (motel) an email but was told they have none and wouldn't know where i can aquire one. there are no more on ebay - does anyone know of any other website i can try ? i have looked at preloved but no joy.

this is the cardi - ignore the fact that they describe it as a 'coatigan' - the person who coined that phrase should be sealed in a box and kicked off the end of the pier.

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking at in your link?

kaiki · 03/03/2011 12:30

you're right. grrrrrr, stupid link. think as cardi sold out (and was years ago) they have taken it from site.

feast your eyes on this (warning: cardigan contains bright colours)
motelclothes.com/motel-knitwear/motel-aztec-black-cardigan/

hope that works?

i just wondered if there were any other places to get 2ndhand or preowned bits?

You could try the marketplace on asos??

MoonGirl1981 · 03/03/2011 12:39

Can you knit?

Could you knit one?

IngridBergmann · 03/03/2011 12:41

Do you know, I actually think that's quite nice. I would not wear it because it would make me look like a 1980s knitwear model (with bad hair) but I can see how it would really suit a certain colouring and build.

Sorry you got outbid.

Isn't it odd how the word 'cardi' can seemingly strike fear into the most sanguine of Mumsnetters following the per una debacle with the cupcake. Grin

I opened this thread with some trepidation.

kaiki · 03/03/2011 13:06

i realise this thread title can strike fear into the hearts of most right thinking women but there was no way i was putting 'obsessed with this COATIGAN'.

both times i was really on the back foot with the bidding, i followed it for 5 days at 99p and was hugging myself with glee when i thought i'd found a hidden bargin. then it went up so quickly it left me wondering how many other people can there be that want to look like louche 80s kajagoogoo lookalikes?

other than me,obv.

moongirl1981 sadly i can't knit, all the stitch and bitch meetings i went to ended in tears, recriminations and drpped stitchery. can you knit? i know a phonomenal knitter so if you think its easy enough i may ask her about it...

crazybutterfly didn't know about asos will have a look now!

thanks all!

'per una debacle'? spill, please.

IngridBergmann · 03/03/2011 13:12

LOL Grin

Have you not seen the link to the cupcake cardigan? Or the sailing boat one? Or the handbag one?

You have been missing out...they are the epitome of beautiful living. Really.

You need to spend more time browsing Per Una. Wink

IngridBergmann · 03/03/2011 13:14

Deep joy

There was a thread, but I don't have time to search now...I'm sure you will find it if you do Smile

kaiki · 03/03/2011 13:29

will do, will look now!

be patient! I found a designer maxi dress I really liked. It took me about 18 months of regularly checking Ebay but I got one in the end. Designer dress originally about £500 for the bargain price of £50. Was worth it Wink

kaiki · 04/03/2011 08:22

ingridbergmann MY EYES! MY EYES !! i imagine that cardigan is the kind of thing you'd be forced to wear in purgatory.

sweetheart - i know, i know and the damn cardigan is quite old so sure one or two more will pop up, i just want it now this minute! aztec is my look for the summer (apart from the sacrificing and worshipping the weather)

HalfTermHero · 04/03/2011 11:48

Oh god grief at the cupcake cardi! That is M&S trying (and failing) to do the Boden Fun genre.

higgle · 04/03/2011 11:51

AND it got 10 five star reviews!!!

mippy · 04/03/2011 13:57

I actually quite like it. But then I have a striped jumper with a cupcake on it from Topshop.

OP - you could offer to buy the wool for your knitter friend (nb will not be cheap) and look up some 80s patterns on eBay. I'm sure I've seen very similar designs when browsing them in Oxfam etc.

IngridBergmann · 04/03/2011 18:14

Rabbits died for that cardigan. just think on't.

ongakgak · 04/03/2011 18:19

I LOVE it, and as a knitter, you could definitely knit it up. It would cost a lot for the wool and the time, but I would head on to knitting websites and start contacting members to see if anyone would be willing to take a commission.

I doubt you would get it done fro anything less than £100, probably more.

the perinea handbag jersey is...jazzy, not to be missed

ongakgak · 04/03/2011 18:19

PER UNA ffs

IngridBergmann · 04/03/2011 18:24

Perinea? was that your iphone? LOL Grin

May I adopt that as my new name for Per Una, alongside the trademark MyKleeneAss?

ongakgak · 04/03/2011 18:29

Yes please do- love the auto correct with the ipad!

IngridBergmann · 04/03/2011 18:31

Thankyou. I think it is most apt. Smile

kaiki · 04/03/2011 19:14

ongakgak i assume when you say you love it you are refering to the aztec cardi ? either way, i will have to get an expert onto the knitting, you're right. i think if it costs that much though i can't justify it, which is a shame.

i like perinea for per una, i may also adopt 'HyMen' for H&M.

has anyone seen the cardi below the cupcake link with the handbag knitted onto it ? was someone thinking;

"Of course! women love cardigans and handbags, lets marry the two!"
brilliant. i look forward to marrying many more women-based items in knitwear like tampons and turtle necks.

OP posts:
tethersend · 04/03/2011 20:06

Ok, can't find the Motel one, but this is similar.

ongakgak · 04/03/2011 20:07

yes yes, I really like the Aztec one,

lol tampon turtle necks.

ongakgak · 04/03/2011 20:08

That is so "can't buy me love", do remember that film, the one where she wore the white suede jacket and shorts combo?
