Would this be totally inappropriate to wear to a wedding in April (afternoon service) with black tights. Its not really that short on me either.

Don't see why you can't wear it tbh. Is there some sort of dress code/ colour scheme you have to match with?

Oooh, nice dress- I'd wear it with a wide brimmed floppy hat, 70s style.

No colour scheme. I think it stems from spending most days in jogging bottoms and thinking maybe it's a bit racy for a wedding...
