Hi,

Was hoping to get some good tips please on the best place to get some good quality basic t shirts /tops to start to build up a decent everyday wardrobe. Got a 4 week old and a 2 year old and trying to get sorted with an everyday wardrobe now I can shift the pregnant tum.

Want some long and short sleeved in charcoal / black/ White that can be teamed with dark skinnies, harem pants( I know some thoughts on those!!) and slim leg trousers. With little ones in tow online would be good although would like recommendations so I can be sure of quality.

Also anyone seen any good grey cardigans, thinking perhaps cashmere?? Pref something that i can chuck on when not with the kids and feel a bit special during the day.(no idea when that will be!!)

I was directed to Uniqlo, Banana Republic, American Apparel and Esprit. Definitely worth a look.

Kew have got some nice t-shirts in, and the Jigsaw outlet on Ebay is tops for nice cardis

Gap are good for very basic t-shirts.

They last ages and wash well too.

pollyblue · 02/03/2011 11:45

Uniqlo are excellent, really good weight cotton. I used to swear by M&S for t-shirts and vests but the ones i bought last year were really thin fabric and shrunk to b*ggery in the wash.

Brilliant thanks all, would never have thought of uniqlo! Off to hunt some out, little ones in tow..

American apparel every time! Great cuts and colours and you can feel totally smug and holier than thou whilst you buy great t-shirts because its all ethical, hoorah.

Uniqlo are online if that's easier, their delivery is quick and returns excellent - returned a blouse once and my account was credited within 48 hours. Don't work for them, honest Grin.

I like dorothy perkins long sleeve cotton t shirts - they are nice and long in the body and sleeves and wash well usually on two for £12 etc. I have about 10 and wear them under everything.

Pure have 25% off at the moment - they have a boyfriend style cardigan which comes in grey (I live in my black one). here

Also Zara worth a look as they are online and their stripey breton t-shirts were nice thick cotton and long enough as well. here

Oasis make a good basic boatneck t-shirt too but this is a more fitted stretchy material. and not cotton

Also Boden's essential Tshirts are actually quite nice!

topsi · 03/03/2011 08:06

Isabella Oliver t-shirts are great, they wash and wash and never change shape or colour!
here 15% off at the moment as well!!

noddyholder · 03/03/2011 08:09

Uniqlo Gap and American apparel if you are skinny

AlpinePony · 03/03/2011 08:12

Esprit. Can't be beaten.

SchrodingersCatFliesToOz · 03/03/2011 08:18

"petit bateau" can't be beaten above Gap (no contest) and Esprit. Stop at size 12 (18 years) though.
