H&M Women's sizes

Hi

I went into H&M during my lunch hour today with the intention of buying a couple of skirts and shirts for work. However, as I went to try especially the shirts on... gulp, not even the size 12 fitted me properly! Now, the interesting thing is that my clothes at home have become too big for me as I've recently lost a bit of weight (but not much)... they are a size 10-12! Also, I bought a skirt from M&S at the weekend which is a very roomy and comfortable size 10. How can this be?!?!

H&M sizes are hit and miss as it depends on who has been making their clothes that particular week. If it is a week where the clothes are being handcrafted in a Vietnamese sweat-shop by 6 year-olds, the sizes seem to be a tad smaller.

H&M are very inconsistent, I have things in 3 different sizes from them. If you like the clothes, mutter darkly about how it's a pain having to try everything on, then buy it in the size that fits whether that's an 8 or an 18. No-one else sees the labels.

H&M, like Topshop and River Island, are aimed very much at the young, slim 18-25's, and their sizing seems to reflect that - i.e. even the sleeves are slim; no room for bingo wings!

M&S, Next, Wallis etc. are aimed at a slightly older demographic, so their sizing is more generous.

Doesn't make sense, but there you go.

Agree with all your posts that the sizes do seem to have very hit & miss. The new collections do look really tiny! It reminds me of going shopping with a friend who is very slim (5'9", 35 years old but just very toned) and she asked me to get her something in a size 8... argh!!! Looks like I will just have to stop eating Wink

I love H&M for shirts and blouses, but have learned that you must try on EVERY ITEM!

I've got size 8, 10, 12 and 14 clothes from H&M and they ALL fit Smile
