Lipgloss/Lipstick recommendations

Want to start wearing a lipgloss or even Lipstick daily. Most lipglosses I've tried have bits of glitter in when I'd like a natural color to wear everyday (currently just wearing tinted vaseline).

Clinique have got some nice ones - there is an 'Almost Lipstick' which I think is called Black Honey. It's actually more sheer than glossy and I think Black Honey is their best seller. I've also just bought one of their new chubby sticks in Raisin which is lovely, I'm in the US but I'm guessing there will be available in the UK too. I love the chubby stick and am also going to buy one in Fig.
None of these look too 'heavy' for daytime wear. I hate wearing normal lipstick during the day as I think it makes me look a bit too 'made up' and these are perfect. They are really easy to put on as well. Happy shopping!

Bobby brown has some fantastic day time lipsticks. Blue raspberry is my favorite. Channel has a line called rouge coco. The colours are designed to be wearable but not statementy. I wear bois de illes.

Mac lipglass is excellent. Tonnes of colours.

Bobby brown has great colours but the lipgloss has a sticky/tacky consistency. That's what I hate about lipgloss! Yet to find one which doesn't bug me.

Bought a ysl lippy recently which is far too red for me to apply directly but the sales guy suggested to just put a bit on my finger and smudge it in... the effect is much more natural, but gives a nice shade of colour. I find YSL a bit dry.. depending on the formulation. I like Chanel - softer application, doesn't drag against your lips.

YY BlackSwan re sticky lipgloss!

With lipgloss I find the colour fades quickly (you have to re apply), the texture is always sticky and I don't like the high gloss look. I don't think it suits many people either.

What I love about lipstick is you can get away with a very natural face (for me this is my lightest foundation, mascara and then eyeliner on the upper lid only) but still look like you're making an effort. You almost instantly look pulled together.

I also apply with my finger especially if I don't have access to a mirror but want to touch up.

Another vote for Bobbi Brown blueraspberry! it's absolutely the perfect lip colour and I wear it all the time :)

lipgloss I used to like Pout plump but that's no longer made. I now buy SoapandGlory sexymotherpucker but it makes your lips tingle. Hate gloopy lipglosses.

If you like a sheer moist lipstick for just a hint of colour Elizabeth Arden sheer lip tint is nice but quite costly about £19

I second Chanel Rouge Coco. An amazing lipstick!!! I'm a lifetime lipstick wearer and I'm officially impressed - their shade range is good and the lipstick looks good even after lunch (I only need one touch up per day) - the staying power is great without annoying dryness. They have a group of beiges, but I prefer a bit of color. My personal fave is #34 Satin. It's just like my natural lip color but a bit enhanced. I think my skin tone is neutral or slightly yellowish, so it suits me beautifully. Vanessa Paradis wears the shade #5 Mademoiselle in the ads - it's just a tiny bit cooler than my favorite shades.

IMO, there are enormous quality differences in lipsticks. Some taste like a stick of margarine, others smell nasty. The worst smear or disappear soon after applying. Max Factor does some quite passable inexpensive ones, so buy one if you just want to test out a color.

Estee Lauder's Pure Colour Lipsticks are nice. Sheer and moisturising. The one in their latest ad is called Bitten Fig and it looks like a really nice natural lip colour. Clinique's Buttershine lipsticks are also nice and so are Bobbi Brown's sheer lipsticks.

If you want something cheap and cheerful, M&S so some really nice sheer lipsticks for £5. I've mentioned these on another thread about budget make up. My favorites are Sheer Berry and Sheer Melon.

Rouge Coco by Chanel gets another vote here. I love Chanel lipsticks but that particular range is my favourite. I wear Rouge Orage - very wearable and very long lasting.

polyhymnia · 28/02/2011 23:13

My favourite is Bobbi Brown Lip Shine - not as gloopy as a lipgloss, but not as dense and 'powdery' as a lipstick. Various other brands do lip sheers/ shines and I always tend to seek these out.
