If you use oil instead of moisturiser for oily skin...

I used to have acne but breastfeeding has pretty much cleared my spots up. However my skin was still quite greasy so I have been using Dr Hauschka normalising day oil instead of moisturiser for the last 2 weeks.

But now my skin has a few dry patches (whilst still being oily Sad) and guttingly I have come out in a couple of massive spots on my chin.

So my questions are...

  1. Should I give up on the oil or keep going? (I guess I might have got the spots anyway and some reviews say it takes a few weeks to balance things out)
  1. Should I use the oil on the area where the spots are or just normal moisturiser? (I need to use something so I can smooth make-up on).

I have a special occasion coming up in a few weeks so I don't know whether to go back to my old regime and just put up with the shiny skin.
Thanks for any advice Smile

I'm still BFing, have combo skin that has a couple of dry patches and is a bit acne prone still although I'm 38. I tried the oil-cleansing method for about a week. It seemed to clear out some longstanding blackheads, but at the same time I developed massive, boil like cystic pustules, about one per each day I used oil cleansing. Some of the pustules were so big that they may cause permanent scarring.

I do not believe in the "nasties coming out" theory. In my case, the oil was clearly clogging my pores. Once I stopped the oil and returned to my normal moisturizer, my skin immediately improved and and new pustules stopped from forming. The spots were unusually stubborn and some of them still haven't healed.

If your skin is anything like mine, ditch the oils immediately!!!

Thanks DonaAna. It sounds like I might have to stop. Pity as it was expensive! I'm going to stop breastfeeding soon and go onto Yasmin (the pill that was recommended to me as being good for acne) so maybe the oiliness will improve then anyway...
