brora sizing

Could someone please tell me what the sizing is like on Brora?

I'm thinking about this dress which is sold out in a 10 (my normal size). Should I risk the 8 or get 12 and have it taken in?

I'm usually an 8 - 10 but post pregnancy my boobs are huge and my thighs are NOT my slimmest feature.

I am a 10 usually and tried this dress on and 10 was my size. It was snug on chest and I have no boobs. It is quite long and also the material is roughish like a wool blend I personally was disappointed when I saw it as looks a lovely dress in the pic.

Sariska · 27/02/2011 08:21

I have this dress in a 10. I'm a 10 rather than an 8/10 but with small boobs, even post-pg (so am Envy of yours). Don't think I could have sized down but I def wouldn't have sized up as the 10 seems generously cut around the waist and hips.

If you're unsure, can't you order both and return one?

Oh, and I do recall, some years ago, paying £70 to have a dress scaled down to fit me. It was worth the money to me but be aware that it can be £££.

I agree that you should order both sizesand return one or both. I tried this on in a 10 and it was a very weird fit on me. Basically the distance between my waist and bust was wrong! I am a size 9 and have brora dresses in 8 and 10, I am a 35 bust

beijingaling · 27/02/2011 09:04

I'm a 32DD with a narrow waist but post preg tummy and thighs. I couldn't be more hourglass if I tried.

I think you're right - I'll order both and send one back!

you might be ok then coz i have big waist but small hips and thighs and it was just all wrong on me Sad

moragbellingham · 27/02/2011 12:42

I've just bought the 12 - and I'm normally a 10/12. It's quite generous and fits in most places but not others. Shoulders are every so slightly wide but not that you would notice.
I'm exactly the same - 32DD with narrow waist and other bits to make an unusual hourglass!

I'll keep the dress as I think i can it's a lovely colour and fit is very good on me, if not perfect.
ESBB for free P&P (doesn't work on website, so have to phone).

moragbellingham · 27/02/2011 12:49

Oh, and i tried it on with woolly socks, and strangely enough it looked frumpy and i was going to return it. With high platforms it's got a lovely retro feelWink.

beijingaling · 27/02/2011 12:58

Well I thought "bugger it" and just bought the size 8. If it's too small it will just have to be an "aspirational" dress for when I lose my prebaby weight.

I also bought 4 lace trimmed v-necks for 12.50 each which I thought was a bargain. Hoping they'll look nice with skirts in the summer.

Thanks for all your input and also thank you morag for the code. I bought before you posted sadly so I missed out but I'm not sure if the code would have worked with overseas delivery!

What colour have you all ordered? I ordered the cinammon one in a 12 and it looks awful on me - really frumpy and gaping at the bust (size 32C). But quite tight to get on so couldn't risk a size down.

beijingaling · 27/02/2011 15:24

I bought the blue one. I hope the colour is more like the one the model wears than the pic of just the dress but well see.

OP posts:
moragbellingham · 27/02/2011 18:43

It does have a fair of red in it but I have no idea which one the model is wearing (maybe a sold out colour?). I have red shoes so was quite pleased.

I found it flattering but I have a multitude of sins to hide these days! (Post baby belly still lingering around)

Hope you like it now.

Really wanted the mini-me one for DD but they only had the cinammon left and thought it was a bitHmm

Sariska · 27/02/2011 18:56

Mine is the blue one and I think it's really nice on. It is long but that's good for me as I'm 5'10". Plus it seems to manage to be flattering on a post-baby body.

Didn't see that they had mini me ones.

beijingaling · 27/02/2011 21:17

Sounds like I'll have to have it taken up at least then!

Just realized this will be my first tea dress!

Not sure why I felt the need to add an exclamation mark to every sentence, sorry.

moragbellingham · 27/02/2011 22:44

Weird! I'm 5'2" and I like the length on me (with huge heels).

Sariska · 28/02/2011 07:00

Yes, odd. I would say maybe I have short legs but I am 34" in jeans etc so don't think so. Dress is definitely knee-length on me tho'. Confused

Anyway, as long as we all like it (Op, included, I hope). And don't all turn up to a MN meet-up in it Wink.

beijingaling · 12/03/2011 13:10

Just to update...

Dress arrived today. I'm thrilled with the size. It will fit perfectly once my bfing boobs have gone.

Thanks for the help everyone.
