Brother's Wedding tights dilemma, help!

Ok - have Dark Red floaty silk dress, just below knee, halterneck style. Have Dark red patent Dorothy type heels, have feather facinator doodah also in red, pink and black and white. Dilemma is do I do black tights and black jacket or nude tights but then what colour jacket?
Help me wise ones...

Think I'd do black, would go with the head doodah :)

thumbwitch · 26/02/2011 11:51

Black tights - but I did when I read your thread title - I ran the "brother's wedding tights" thing together and thought "WTF does her brother need tights for??" BlushGrin

Clarnico · 26/02/2011 11:53

lol me too

your brother wearing tights to his wedding, how very liberal I thought

nude tights

black jacket might be ok if black in fascinator

WincyEtNightie · 26/02/2011 11:55

Yes thumbwitch, I thought the same! Grin

I can't really see black tights working with the red dress/shoes TBH - but that might be because I never wear sheer black tights anyway. I'd go for nude - could still do black jacket if that's what you wanted (jacket would go with head doodah etc...)

Hassled · 26/02/2011 11:58

The feather fascinator doodah is putting me off what otherwise sounds like a nice outfit. DOes it have to have the pink and white in it? Does the pink go with the red?

Nude tights and I dunno re jacket. Red and black can look a bit Moulin Rouge.

thumbwitch · 26/02/2011 12:03

Not thick black tights though, I would do sheer, 10 or less denier, barely black. But I have no ishoo with the Moulin Rouge look GrinWink

ditavonteesed · 26/02/2011 12:14

careful with black tights, I have some gorgeous dorothy style shoes and they look a bit odd with black tights.

greedygoose · 27/02/2011 16:27

Haha at title mix up - not sure brother that liberal but who knows what he gets up to in his spare time!!

I am going to try on tonight but think may go nude, its not really me but I may have to just go for it, thanks ladies..

I thought that sheer black tights were a bit of a fashion no-no at the moment (or maybe that was last week),). Black opaques would be a bit much with a wedding outfit, so I'd go with nude.

A black jacket would still go.

ViolaTricolor · 27/02/2011 18:39

I also think black tights would be weird with the dark red. I share Hassled's doubt about the fascinator colours. Giving that the benefit of the doubt, I'd say nude tights and a colour other than black for the jacket -- I'd prob take white or pink from the fascinator. My ideal with that dress and shoes would be steely grey or taupe or somesuch with those colours in the fascinator too.

nancydrewfoundaclue · 27/02/2011 20:21

Sheer black tights are just grim and I am not sure opaques would work - depends on fabric of dress and I'm not keen on what are essentially winter tights with a dress with bare arms.

What is the jacket like - formal jackets (esp dark colours) often look mismatched with a more dressy/glam dress. Need more details Smile

traceybath · 27/02/2011 20:30

When's the wedding and will you be outdoors?

Because to be honest I'd go bare legged rather than do nude or sheer black.

greedygoose · 28/02/2011 14:40

Tracey, bare legged may be an option - may need spray tan though????! Will only be outdoors for a small bit at the beginning - am panicing now, its on Sat! Any ideas of anywhere online I could get a jacket??

Nude tights get my vote. Would a pashmina type of wrap or very cropped cardigan go over the dress better, in a softer colour? What is the budget? Monsoon usually do life savers for these occasions.

Havingkittens · 28/02/2011 14:55

I can't picture the dress but would opaque off white tights work?

If not, I'd say nude. Only black if something like micro fishnets or tulles would work with your dress.

Spenguin · 28/02/2011 18:59

No nude tights! Oh please, no! The sheen on them makes the whole sporting of them look nutty nuts.

30 denier+ black ones, I would go for.

Have a nice time!

Carrotsandcelery · 28/02/2011 20:05

You can get nude ones that are matt though - I agree the shiny ones are not too flattering.

greedygoose · 03/03/2011 09:41

Just an update for you - going to go for either micro fishnets or found some ones that are 10 denier with little hearts on that are quite cool, I was having nightmares about nude tights! and didnt fancy turning up at work after a spray tan which was my only other option, big thanks ladies, Jess

I have been converted to black 10 denier seam up the back hold ups from M&S. A little bit sexy but not too much.

Agree that micro fishnets or patterned 10 denier would also be nice.
