How to find a good hairdresser?

Hi
I've just moved and need a new hairdresser. I don't really know anyone yet to get a recommendation that I trust. What would you do? Do I look in the yellow pages? Just choose a nice looking salon, try internet recommendations? What do you go on?
Thanks.

I'd always go on a recommendation - had a few awful cuts before finally asking a friend who recommended somewhere, and they're fab. If that's not possible, have a wander around town and see which salons are busy - the one i go to now is usually busy throughout the day, the ones where i had the awful cuts were, in retrospect, pretty quiet, even on a Saturday. HTH.

Where do you live?

What about trying MN Local and putting a thread there?

My hairdresser said the best way to find a hairdresser when you move somewhere new is to walk up to someone with a nice cut and ask them!
