Going out clubbing with young people. Style crisis

ilythia · 23/02/2011 11:53

Am sneaking in here although I don't really belong but am going out with some people off my course tomorrow night. I am a good decade older, only one with kids/married etc etc
People I am going with are sporty/clubber types who dress all cool and stuff.

What sort of thing can I wear? Was thinking of jeans (dull) with red heels, but my jeans are not exactly smart (think purposely holed type ones...)
Don't have skirts that aren't for work, and the one going out dress I have is dirty.
Am impoverished as well....SO...if I go to primark or noew look or somewhere equally stylish tomorrow, what am I looking for?
Am size 18-20, tall (5ft9) with very large norks. Don't like my arms, or stomach, legs okay but not great.
Have chin length bob hair which I will put something in, feck knows what.

any ideas? linkies to give me some idea? or general advice to not look frumpy?

God I would come down with a migraine rather than club it.

Rannaldini · 23/02/2011 11:56

dunno
do you mean clubbing as in hard core clubbing or as in gentle dancing around in bar type place?

ilythia · 23/02/2011 11:59

I must go,. Have skived off every other night and I have all friday off with both DD's booked into nursery. Am hapy to go (cant wait) but really don't want to look like a twat.
Will also be escaping around midnight with another friend, but they don't know that.

what I do have in my wardrobe.

Very lowcut strappy dark purple silky vest top thing. Cannot be work on own (too bloody cold)
cross over see through black kimono wrap thing, veyr covering, veyr boring.
tempted to wear both together but....

dress that doesn't have stain is veyr very short, grey silky primark thing with lace panel across collarbone. quite flattering but not happy wearing it without something underneath, and not leggings. they are Not Good.

GBF likes my red shoes I have just been informed, so they are a goer...apparently.

dunno ran, we are meeting in pub and then going down t'high street where there is range from revolution bar type places with dance floor to big clubs. Have feeling we are heading for fairly cool rocky nightclub, so middle ground really.

OP posts:
FluffyMummy123 · 23/02/2011 12:37

i cant help you with clubbing

ilythia · 23/02/2011 12:39

Ignore the clubbing, what about night in pub with cool people then?

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 23/02/2011 12:41

Wear your strappy top and kimono top on top - will look great for the pub - and for clubbing and means you dont have to spend £££ for a night out. Just accessorise up and glam up the makeup.

vjg13 · 23/02/2011 12:53

Get your going out dress washed or dry cleaned then have a big trying on session with all your existing stuff. On the night, concentrate on getting your hair and make up looking great and have a brilliant time! Smile

ilythia · 23/02/2011 14:56

The dress is a loss vjg, I really need to chuck it but it's so pretty idiot
Have had a try out of some stuff and found a deep pink batwing top that looks okay as well.
Off to get some nicer jeans I think and then I can try on happily. Jeans are always worth spending onGrin

That is exactly the reason I am backing out of going clubbing this Friday! Not much help to you though!

ilythia · 23/02/2011 15:12

The funny thing is that when I was their age [old gimmer] I didn't give a flying fuck what I wore, I would always look ossom....

Yes good jeans sounds a plan and does the top work with the red heels?

pink4ever · 23/02/2011 16:08

A pink top will not work with red heels Im afraid so you better get some new shoes on your shopping rip.

ENormaSnob · 23/02/2011 16:59

Get some fab jeans, not too casual ones.

A dressy top and a great pair of shoes.

Sarsaparilllla · 23/02/2011 17:00

Deep pink batwing top sounds lovely!! That, jeans and go searching in the accessories section in Primark to doll it all up, they have some fabby things :)

ilythia · 23/02/2011 19:31

yes, that is an issue. The red shoes are veyr red, and the top is deep purpley/pink (cerise?) so no good.
Have black heels (dull) so might need some new shoes too Grin

vanillamum · 23/02/2011 20:27

I really could be taling out of my arse as not gone clubbing in years but do you really want to go out in new shoes, plus isn't is cheaper to buy a new top than shoes usually. So could you keep the shoes and get a new top as well as the jeans or really (which I would do is have a few drinks and think really shoes are miles away from my top so who cares if they match or not, however, I am not stylish or beutiful so please ignore me. And just have a fantastic night out xxxx

vanillamum · 23/02/2011 20:28

plus rubbish speller obviously

ilythia · 23/02/2011 20:42

I do see your point but was only thinking of new look/primark for shoes so not more than a tenner if I can help it, and tops are difficult for me, low cut vs prim vs arms vs sweaty vs staying at home with the telly and a baileys hot chocolateGrin

If I can't find anything I am so wearing my reds though. and they were only tescoGrin

Jeans, cami vest with little cardi over the top, heels (wear the red heels and buy new cheapo vest and cardi instead). Plenty of smoky eye make up and do your hair.

Sorted.

Make sure you are comfoy, though. You won't care what you look like after a few bevs and will regret wearing the shoes that pinch, topthat you have to keep pulling down etc

Have fun!

vjg13 · 25/02/2011 09:29

Well? What did you wear and did you have a good time? Smile

ilythia · 25/02/2011 18:08

Wore my dark straight leg jeans that had ripped at the hem (sewed them up first), black heels and batwing top. Also rocked sali hughes smokey eye thing after watching the video 6 million times.
DH tried to jump me before I went out.
Gay BFF said I looked awesome.
Great nightGrin
