Morning all,

I have just received this dress in the post and have to say it looks surprisingly good on my tall slightly lumpy hourglass figure (well, with spanx anyway!) So, a few questions if you don't mind!

  1. Is it really ok to wear red to a wedding?
  2. What shoes do I wear (I have really wide feet so choice limited! Was thinking nude shoes maybe? Really don't want black.
  3. what do I wear to cover up in church etc? The wedding is next month in Scotland so could be freezing!
  4. By that token, do I wear tights or not?

Thank you in advance for any help!!

I like it..nude shoes and pashmina (not sure what colour)

bishboschone · 22/02/2011 10:57

nude tights too

mateysmum · 22/02/2011 10:57

You could wear a nice fitted jacket or how about a luxurious pashmina - you could use it as a blankie if the church is freezing!

Red like that dress is fine for a wedding. i think it's only wrong if it's tarty, tits hanging out red.

Tights - definitely - look better than goose pimply legs, but then again maybe you have gorgeous up to the neck legs, not like my stunted grotty pins.

Have a nice time at the wedding.

cross posting re pashmina

Hi ellangirl

Well, I think that dress looks lovely. The ruching at the side of the waist reminds me of an LK Bennett dress that I really like - really flattering.

  1. I know of no reason why you should not wear red to a wedding
  2. Agree with you that you should not accessorize with black. I personally don't wear black with colour. Nude heels sound lovely: something like this? (or more affordable version - try New Look?) www.lkbennett.com/shoes/courts/Sledge2_shoe_lighttaupe with a nice clutch?www.lkbennett.com/bags/clutch/BCCLAUDIA214PATENT
  3. Hmmm... I'll give the Cover Up In Church some thought...
  4. Personally, I would wear very fine nude tights with this dress and nude heels.

When/ where is the wedding? (ie what might the weather be like?).

With my woeful IT skills, I clearly can't be relied on to post a serviceable link...

Sledge2 Shoes: They're nude patent high heeled court shoes with a slight platform - very elegant, very classic but the platform gives them a modern edge.

Claudia Clutch: Nude patent too

TobyLerone · 22/02/2011 11:08

Yep, nude shoes and tights. Not shiny ones.

I think it's fine to wear red to a wedding, and that dress is beautiful.

And I'd go with a black pashmina. The 'no wearing black to weddings' rule is outdated, especially with a winter wedding. It's not like you're all in black and looking funereal.

bulby · 22/02/2011 11:15

Have to suspect that unlike the op many of you don't shop at long tall Sally as you are suggesting nude heels Smile.
actually think it's a lovely dress and can think of no reason why you can't wear red to a wedding. Hope that unlike me' you are a. Happy to wear heels ( I'm self conscious enough without adding to my 6 ft..... My issue I know!) and b. You don't have the matching tall persons boat feet meaning that a choice of anything other than black granny shoes is a distant dream.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 22/02/2011 12:11

LK Bennett have some lovely nude patent very low kitten heels - I noticed them when I was in there because they are very like a pair I bought last year. They give hardly any height but are very elegant.

ellangirl · 22/02/2011 14:05

Thanks for all the replies. Although I don't have an objection to wearing heels, I am already quite tall so lower is probably better, but it's the wideness of my feet that is a problem. I'm just not sure I could squeeze my trotters into lovely LK Bennett ones, nor can my budget stretch to them- boo!
Glad you think nude shoes too though- Toby I don't object to black because I think it's inappropriate, just not a fan of it with red personally. I have cream type pashmina thing that would do the job just fine I think, but I like the jacket idea a la mateysmum- any suggestions to point me in the right direction?
Thank you all so much for your help!
