where has my curl gone?

Not so long ago I have curls in my hair including natural ringlets which I loved.
But last summer they vanished when I coloured my hair dark brown. Some of it has been cut out but it'll take a while for the rest to grow out. Could it be the hair dye that did for my waves?
I had blonde highlights before this and it hadn't had that effect...

Any thoughts oh wise ones? Especially on how I might get my natural curls/waves back - I miss them and don't feel the same without them?

I should add I've had an abnormal smear and am having furtehr tests - could it be a sign of potential ill health?

Mine lost its curl when I was constantly either pg or bfing. It stayed thick and basically wavy, and got thicker while pg, but it's only since I grew it a bit and stopped bfing DD4 now 9 (about 5 years since she stopped bfing) that my curl has returned. I colour it and also use the curly girl method (no shampoo, just conditioner for washing, and natural drying after scrunching). I think hormones play a part in hair texture for some women.

Good luck with the tests.

Yes, I would say possibly hormones to. I had very curly, thick hair as a teenager, but I think years of taking the pill followed by three pregnancies / BF has changed it. It's now much finer - still wavy but not curly like it used to be. It might return if I grow it longer but I don't think mine will ever be as curly as it was!

Hope the tests turn out ok.

Hormones here too - mine lost much of its natural curl when I was pg and it's never really returned :(.

If you cut it really short, the curls might come back when it grows back in (but I'm talking no.2 head shave short, not the most attractive look in a woman IMO!)

Yep, hormones can change the texture of your hair. Also your hair changes texture throughout different stages in your life. When I was in my early 20s I had very wavy hair, almost loose corkscrew curls at one point but that didn't last longer than about 7 years, and it hadn't been like that before I was about 18. I was actually told once that your hair changes texture every 7 years or so. Not sure if that's true or not.

My stepsister used to have really curly hair, and then had it all cut off short and when it grew back it was wavy, not curly so not sure if thumbwitch's method will work!

Oh, and dying it will very likely change the texture too.
