Do I have to re-mortgage to get a decent pair or are there any decent straighteners out there for £20 under £50? My hair is just above the shoulders and pretty easy to straighten

IIRC the Pro230s are good and dropped drastically in price over the last few years

I just bought some Carmen Girl straighteners from Argos for £14.29. They're as good as my expensive Nicky Clarke pair were.

I have Boots ones which are very good for the price. My hair is quite hard to straighten and IMO I can do just as good a job on mine with these as the hairdresser does with GHDs.

Thanks for the suggestions, that's really helpful. Glad to see that not only can I get a decent set for a decent price, but I have a choice too.

The second best ones I've ever used (GHDs being best) are £7.99 ones from Tesco (own brand...look a little like GHDs).

Bought them in crisis when my GHDs had to be sent off to be repaired and found them to be really, really good.

Ds broke my ghd's recently so I bought some Remmington ones in the sales for twenty quid and they are pretty good Tbh.

Although what I will do with the free false eyelashes that came with them I don't know!

Free false eyelashes? That's a deal clincher. lucy I like the sound of £7.99
