Need advice from hairdressers/hair experts about using cheaper shampoo/conditioner...

Trying to find ways to save some money.

My hairdresser has got me using KMS products - her argument being that better ie more expensive shampoo/conditioner will make the colour on my hair last longer.

The KMS stuff is costing me about £20 every other month. Have done some research and I could buy it on line - has anyone else done this?

Tresemme would cost me about a third of the price, but is it a false economy ie will I need the colour on my hair doing more often?

I'm not sure what 'good' shampoo is. Is the supermarket own brand just as good?

Some years ago "Which" did research and discovered Tesco wheatgerm shampoo and conditioner was best for coloured hair - might be worth checking to see if they have updated this. They blind test products of all prices, and the results are often very surprising - also read "The Undercover Economist" many premium products are no better than less expensive ones, they are just created to give people the option to pay more if they choose to do so.

I remember the Janet Regan Horizon programme (which caused the No7 protect whatever phenomenon) doing shampoo/conditioner.

But only in a test of whether products specifically designed for prolonging the intensity/life of colour worked better.

And yes, they did, the difference (on her hair) was very noticeable.

My hairdresser can spot a mile of whether someone was using a popular cheaper brand. And he was right in my case!
