What's the difference between and yellow powder ie bobbi brown and a translucent powder?

I think some translucent powders are not really that translucent - they often come up quite pinky on me. And most of us look better with a yellower shade like Bobbi Brown.

The most translucent powder I have ever tried was called HD High Definition, by (I think) Make Up For Ever. Only available in the UK online (unless anyone can tell me otherwise). It is white in the pot, but amazingly superfine, and I've never had a powder that is less powdery. Amazing stuff.

You can buy Make up Forever in a little professional make up artist boutique called M.A.P in Goldhawk Mews in Shepherd's Bush.

I'm afraid, you may have seen my comment on the last foundation thread, but the Bobbi Brown "everyone looks best in yellow" ethos makes me want to scream! NOT true!

Wow, thanks Havingkittens. I'll get meself up to Goldhawk Road sharpish.

I'm sure you're right about the yellow tyranny. It doesn't make sense that it would work for everyone. Does for me, though.

It's a funny little shop, you might miss it at first. It's down a little cobbled road. Here's the website

Thanks Smile

Thanks, the reason I ask is that I have struggled with foundation for the last year or so. Everything seems to look pink after application. It doesn't help that my neck and face are completely different colours.

I am using a BB compact yellow powder but wonder if this is actually the problem rather than the foundation?

If foundations and powders look pink on you then it probably is the case that you have more of a yellow tone to your skin. So maybe your foundation is still too pink.

Try a yellow-based sheer base - either Bobbi Brown or Becca (my complete favourite).

moragbellingham · 19/02/2011 14:52

kittens I'm glad you said that! I've always wondered, as I used to buy a prescriptives pink powder.
Yellow makes me look yellow.

Anyone know where Little ASOS has gone? I bought some great dresses a couple of months ago.
tracey - downtown heel with a closed toe type thing. What made them £258 in the first place I don't knowConfused

moragbellingham · 20/02/2011 11:30

oops - what's that doing there!

MooMinCow · 20/02/2011 12:28

hester - MAC do a powder called Prep & prime which is supposed to be like the high def powder. is v fine white powder but is so sheer it won't make u look ghostly. I use it over mineral foundation and it does not change the colour (and I have dark olive skin tone). apparently you can apply before base like a primer too.

hester · 20/02/2011 21:24

That is VERY interesting, mooMinCow - I'll definitely check that out. Many thanks Smile
