I had my hair cut....it was long, way past my shoulders, it DID need cutting...I left with a blunt, choppy kinda bob, above my shoulders...shorter at the back :S

I don't know what I was thinking! Words of encouragement please.

Oh no! I did the same a few years a go. I had hair right down my back and just went to the hairdressers one day and said 'Do whatever you like!'. Hairdresser clapped her hands together with glee and I came out with 12 inches less hair and choppy bob!! Grin But even though I have vowed to grow it again, I never have and I kind of like my shorter hair now! It looks much healthier and shinier and every time I do mention growing it again everyone shouts 'No, don't!', so it can't look that bad!

If you don't get used to it is it long enough to tie back until it has a bit more length again?

Hopefully once the shock has worn off and you've had a go at styling it yourself you will start to like it! Smile

umma · 17/02/2011 21:02

Thanks Lazyem...its not long enough to tie back! lol Shit. I've just been looking in the mirror and playing with it...perhaps I shall convince myself I look more younger and funky.

Nowt I can do now, it really must have been a moment of madness, I really liked longer hair!!!

Dreading work and the 'you've had your hair cut' comments. Hate that!

Give it a week or so, you'll probably love it soon enough. I think it sort of takes a while to fit the face. This may just be complete bullshit but I always think my hair just needs to readjust to my face.
I'm not insane. I swear.

Lazyem · 17/02/2011 21:11

Yes, I did that, too! Checking the mirror and seeing if I looked more 'with-it' with my new style!! Grin I do agree with laosvher, though in that I usually need a few days to get my hair to 'fit' right!

You never know, the work comments could be very complimentary!! Smile

Ooh, It sounds fab!

You're just in shock, have some wine and a slab of chocolate. You'll get used to it.

Any chance of before and after photos? Bet it looks great.

umma · 17/02/2011 21:58

Thank you for the kind words. I think you're right, need a few days to get used to it!

I did the same last year and have been trying to grow it out since then. The trouble is it gets to a stage where it looks so awful that I can't bear it any more and go back to the hairdressers and get it chopped off again.

RunningUphill · 20/02/2011 20:42

oh poor you! i feel your pain. i did exactly the same at the end of last year. except i marched into a hairdressers i didn't know very well (while visiting my mum up north) and ended up losing my long, looooong hair to a REALLY BADLY CUT choppy bob so had to come back with my tail between my legs and humbly ask my usual favourite hairdresser to please sort it out (excruciating) and she had to cut it EVEN SHORTER to get rid of all the really uneven bits ... and three months later it's just about chin length.
on the upside, my sisters keep telling me never to grow it back cos it suits me better this way. (i'm still growing it back though.)

you'll either get used to it and love it, or you can grow it back, and it will be in much, much better condition and you will have satisfied your curiosity about what a choppy bob might look like!

victoria beckham has a lot to answer for.

noddyholder · 20/02/2011 20:45

What is it with middle aged women and hairdressers thinking the 'choppy bob' is the be all! We do not all want to look like bloddy newsreaders.Let it grow Smile

I am another one that did this in October and I haven´t cut it since. I long for my hair to swing again and everywhere I look everyone has long, beautiful hair. I have vowed to not go to the hairdresser until at least April and that will be for the minimum of trims. I think you have to try it at least once in your life or you would always wonder what if. It does give you a chance to start again and really look take care of the "new" hair that grows through. I have cut down on using the hairdryer, straighteners and I don´t wash it so frequently and it is so shiny.

aLegonEachCorner · 21/02/2011 14:51

By the time you get used to it or even start to love it....it will have grown. That's the good thing about hair mistakes...IT WILL GROW.

Won't be too long before you can maybe tie it back, forget about it and badabadabing!!! you have long hair again.

I had mine cut short. Very short and love it.

umma · 22/02/2011 20:01

Cheers everyone. Went out at the weekend and quite liked it...I really wish I hadn't got it cut so short tho. It took me ages to grow :( It will grow again I know. Nevermind, will just have to get on with it xx
