Dying blonde hair brown

Anyone done this successfully at home? What did you use?

I've got dark blonde hair with pale highlights. I'd like to go goldeny brown but looking through all the different hair colours in Boots I thought my head would explode...

Garnier Nutrisse do some 'champagne' tones.

I used the number 8.13 on my blonde hair and went very dark blonde/not quite mousy brown.

After a few washes the goldeny tones came through.

I'm pleased with it and would use it again.

i've done it. am blonde again now, see pic on profile, but i went brown for about 5 years after dd was born. go for a light brown shade first, maybe something with ash tones initially, bearing in mind the colour your hair is now will warm it up once applied. you can always go darker the next time, it's just safer to do in stages at home as adding colour is easier than stripping it out.

this thread might help i started it a while back, lots of reviews of hair dyes on there.

ooh THANKS lucykate I knew I had seen something like that recently but my search must have been a bit cackhanded!

Be careful though, as a lot of blonde colours have ash tones in them (even if they don't say on the box) and if you put brown onto the blonde it can go a real cacky green colour !! Make sure that the brown you are using has golden or red tones in. Trust me, its not a nice colour to go !! Shock

aquavit · 17/02/2011 12:26

well GREEN is not the problem as it turns out! I seem to have dyed my hair very dark plummy red...

it's actually really nice but not at all what I was going for! (and not at all like the 'light golden brown' that it was supposed to be)

am rather pleased though, it's so shiny
