Emma Watson: style icon?

DrNortherner · 15/02/2011 15:25

She is getting loads of press atm but I don't think she is that stylish.

She looked terrible in her Burberry Mac and the dress she wore to Elle Style Awards (cut out sides one) was vile, imho.

She is pretty, and has a good, healthy body shape (read not a stick) but has an air of nonchalance about her that I want to punch.

What do you think?

Not a style icon at all - just a wearer of nice expensive designer clothes - like Victoria Beckham..

I think stylish people are ones who throw together a mix of stuff and just look unique and amazing - even I could wear an expensive frock and look good - well, OK..

Wordsonascreen · 15/02/2011 15:29

At least shes not a muse.

Thats far more annoying.

potplant · 15/02/2011 15:38

I think she looks nice - although its a dress only a skinny 20 year old could get away with.
I think icon is stretchng it a bit though. She's had Burberry and Chanel throwing posh clothes at her since she was 16.

Mind you this is the same awards ceremony who presented Cheryl Cole with Musician of The Year, so their judgement is a bit suspect.

DeLadyDeGaga · 15/02/2011 15:39

I never had much of an opinion on the girl until.....the Baftas on Sunday evening.

Dress looked "too old" for her. Hair? Not good. Her head looked like a peanut.

The most annoying thing about her though was her apparent boredom about the whole event.

How very tedious for the girl to have had a film career at such a young age; fame; adoration and megabucks! She could do with a "real job" and see how that makes her feel/look.

The ginger bloke's the same.....Rupert Grint? Might be very talented for all I know but I recently read an article about him in the Times Sunday magazine and HE sounded hacked off with all the fame thing. Bloody ingrate!

Small talent I think but granted, she's gone a long way with it!!

orangina · 15/02/2011 15:42

Icon? No no no no no no. She wears posh frocks quite nicely (and only QUITE...), but doesn't look particularly stylish. Like Cheryl Cole... she is pretty and cute, but don't think either of them have any personal sense of style. They just do what their stylists tell them.

That frock she wore last night was vile. She got away w it because she is 20. Urgh.

BunnyLebowski · 15/02/2011 15:44

I don't get it either. As ZZMum put's it she's just a wearer of expensive clothes'.

The dress at the Baftas would have been better suited to Helen Mirren. The one she wore to the Elle Awards made her look a wee bit muscular in a shot-putter way (which is some feat as she's only a wee slip of a thing).

I think her hair is boring and old-fashioned.

And agree that she's starting to acquire a very self-satisfied look in nearly every pic taken of her.

One thing I cannot comment on is her acting ability having never seen a HP film.

JoyceBarnaby · 15/02/2011 15:46

I don't think anyone can be an 'icon' at 20 anyway. It's like having your autobiography written by 21 - hopefully, life has only just begun for you!!

CarolinaRua · 15/02/2011 15:46

No cant stand her hair, her clothes or herself

potplant · 15/02/2011 15:53

Her acting style is decidedly wooden in all but the last HP film in which there was a noticeable improvement, possibly because she realised its the last one so needs to put a bit more effort in!

orangina · 15/02/2011 15:54

Alexa Chung more of an icon. She has her own sense of style at least.....

potplant · 15/02/2011 15:58

I kind of like Alexa Chung because she looks like she does her own thing even if sometimes she looks like she got dressed in the dark.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 15/02/2011 15:58

No likey her hairdo.

jesuswhatnext · 15/02/2011 16:00

a real style icon makes her own style, is quirky and intestesting, experiments and stands out in a crowd - EW often looks like a little girl dressed in her mums clothes - on a purely 'motherly' level, what is going going to aspire to wear when she gets older?, im nearly 50 and i love the fact i can now afford decent clothes, at her age i was experimenting/having fun with clothes on practically no money - made me quite resourceful and i always looked individual (not always in a good way! Grin)but i loved the challange of looking stylish on nearly nothing!

potplant · 15/02/2011 16:05

jesus - good point. Young girls should be rooting round Top Shop and New Look. She's 20 and modelled for Chanel and Burberry. Her 'norm' is somewhat different than most girls her age.

vesela · 15/02/2011 21:00

How can anyone be a style icon when their toes don't fit into their shoes?

womma · 15/02/2011 21:06

No she's not a ruddy style icon! Wouldn't we all be if we had a stylist and lots of free clothes from top end designers?

I can't stand the silly little twerp either

MoonGirl1981 · 15/02/2011 21:08

Just googled her bafta picture.

She looks a lot like Eddie Izzard in his transvesite days.

Without the smile and charm though.

StarlightPrincess · 16/02/2011 08:30

Her hair is awful. Not a fan of the pixie look, I'm afraid.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/02/2011 08:32

I'd even call Sienna Miller more of a style icon - at least she actually seems to choose her look/style and be a bit different. Not just put on a nice dress that a designer has given you.

Bonsoir · 16/02/2011 08:51

Emma Watson needs to grow up a bit, I think. She looks bored and spoilt most of the time!

sharbie · 16/02/2011 08:56

awful hair - doesn't do anything for her

noddyholder · 16/02/2011 08:57

No not at all.I like her hair as she is young and pretty enough for it but apart from that she is too young and self conscious to be iconic!

DeLadyDeGaga · 17/02/2011 09:31

Oh thank you visela for the Westwood link! What a "two an' eight" they look!! A little colour on those pasty limbs wouldn't have gone amiss either!

Moongirl....Eddie's the prettier of the two, for sure!

And yes, she does look SO UTTERLEY HACKED OFF WITH IT ALL.

How sad. Still, at least she has the cash in the bank. That might cheer her miserable mush a bit.
