The "classic" white shirt. How do you take it from boring to stylish?

First item out of the wardrobe this morning is a white shirt. It is collarless & fitted with pintuck pleats on the front.

I am wearing with red boyfriend cardigan, skinny jeans and brown boots.

How can I make it more interesting?

what the hell is a red boyfriend cardi?

I am clearly not the person to advise you! :)

CarrieABag · 14/02/2011 08:35

scarf?
jewellery?
belt?

Meggles76 · 14/02/2011 08:36

I wear mine with a fitted breton stripe top under it - with either skinny jeans or denim skirt.

Or I wear it with a big statement necklace to liven it up.

Not sure how interesting a white shirt can be! But I am sure there are more stylish people than me on here!!

Is ir the Boden one?

FluffyMummy123 · 14/02/2011 08:51

Big necklace ?

A brooch? Dunno if that's fashionable or makes me a Nanna!

Stripey scarf

Necklace

White shirts can look great, but only if the rest of the outfit is elegant. I don't think skinny jeans are interesting enough a complement - unless perhaps you had a really amazing belt and footwear?

Basically, OP, you are combining several wardrobe classic staples in your outfit. That never works.

sorry Tulpe but I hate collarless shirts....I don't think they look good with necklaces or scarves......

I think white shirts look great with for example a pencil skirt and an intersting belt...but even then don't think a collarless one would work.

Thanks all for comments :)

Chocolatebrownieguilt example of boyfriend cardi :)

CarrieABag - thank you for suggestions :) Have buttoned up cardi and put red mock-croc belt around waist - much better than wearing loose. Also threw on leopard print LV scarf for school run.

Meggles - hadn't thought about layering beneath (other than white cami). Will give that a go.

iCod v similar to Boden one. It is a Top Shop number from a few years ago.

whoneedssleepanyway - white shirts with collars really don't suit me :(

thanks Tulpe
I've got one of those! Now I know not to just call this a baggy cardi! Grin
