Am I being foolish to have my hair cut by a trainee?

I need a haircut. It's long, and I like it long, but I haven't had a trim since the summer. My lovely hairdresser went on maternity leave and promised me she would be back after Christmas but now she has changed her mind and isn't coming back ever

Sooo I need my ends lopping off before it gets any worse and I am a poor student so I'm considering getting it done by a trainee for half the price. I mean, they wouldn't let a complete plank do it, would they? And all I want is a trim, not a restyle, though tbh a lot needs to come off.

Everyone else seems horrified though, as though I may as well roll up to a salon and ask to be scalped by Edward Scissorhands. Please advise, wise ones.

I always used to go to the hairdressing schools for a cut when I was broke (will have to start again soon), and always found it great. The students were always well supervised and were so concerned about getting it right they were very precise and attentive.

I did once get stabbed in the ear with shap scissors by a very nervy girl but I got a voucher for a cut an colour in the proper salon so I got over it quick!

of course it will be fine. The trainees are supervised and try very hard to make the experience fantastic for you. I often go and get a colour/hi lights from the new trainee in our salon, everything is supervised from a very experienced and highly qualified member of staff, so I have no qualms about it.

Although as I am particular about my hairstyle I only let 2 of the girls cut my hair, but that is me. You are only having a trim, not a total restyle, it will be fine.

When I was a student, we always got our hair cut at the training school - if you had long hair, they often did you an updo for free as they wanted the practice
