These boots - yay or nay?

I need some ankle boots and I've seen lots of these things in the shops at the moment. What do people think? I'm clueless about fashion, but I want something a bit more interesting and current (at the moment I'm wearing bootcuts over flat ankle boots - I'm only 24 and I feel so old and frumpy). I'm a size 16 on the bottom and very chunky of leg. I'm too fat for skinny jeans so would wear them with straight leg jeans. Actually, as I type this I really don't think it would work. Though they may look ok with opaques.

Any opinions, or alternatives for nice ankle boots (under £100 and with a heel not too much higher than the ones in the link). Thanks

They look OK, though to me are more skirt boots than jeans boots (I know nothing though so feel free to ignore that...)

For another suggestions, just bought these and love them, I've been posing round the house in them. Look good with long skirts or jeans, though I'm on the fence about wearing them with knee-length skirts. Maybe that's just dislike of my legs though!

I think the OP's boots are a little bit Victoriana

Hows about a wedge heel, but not so clunky as Planets?

hang on

cyb · 13/02/2011 23:03

cant find in black but that sort of shoe boot idea

I have in grey adn I wear to death

planestrainsautomobiles · 13/02/2011 23:03

If you are looking for an ankle boot to wear with jeans, how about something like this??

They aren't tight to the leg so should be a good choice if you are wearing about calf size. Also there was a £20 off code for KG first online purchase.

The boots you link to look ok but I think they are quite ££ for what they are. Hard to tell from a photo though.

flibbertigibbert · 13/02/2011 23:03

Planet - I think you may be right about them being more skirt than jeans boots - which probably isn't the best idea for me as I wear jeans so much.

I do like the idea of wedges.

worrying not wearing - getting late

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 23:06

Desert wedge would be good - instant update.

I looked for some on the office website here - the grey ones on the top right are ideal, but not in that colour.

There are some other decent boots on that link but the ones I like are more expensive than £100.

Hang on.

Sanesometimes1 · 13/02/2011 23:06

flibber - they are nice but a bit pricey I think - lots of this style around at the moment much cheaper - check out boohoo, new look etc etc, can get yourself 2 or 3 pairs for that, plus you are only 24 so you can get away with "disposible" footwear.

flibbertigibbert · 13/02/2011 23:06

Oooh I like those KG ones. Wish they had a little bit more of a heel though

GetOrfMoiLand · 13/02/2011 23:09

cheap

noddyholder · 13/02/2011 23:20

The wedgey desert boots are only really nice with skinnies though and could look v frumpy with any other trousers plus they are everywhere.I think a biker/frye shape is much nicer with straight jeans plus is a classic shape that won't date and goes with skirts too.

cornsilk · 13/02/2011 23:23

Those KG ones are gorgeous. I really don't like the wedged desert ones. They will date and you won't be able to wear them next year.

noddyholder · 13/02/2011 23:25

I agree cornsilk although looking around brighton you won't be able to wear them next month never mind next year!

planestrainsautomobiles · 13/02/2011 23:32

What about these from Carvela, John Lewis. They have more of a heel and guess that you can wear the sheepskin lining up as well (need to check though)

These are quite similar to the ones you linked to in your OP

cornsilk · 13/02/2011 23:32

luckily I don't live anywhere quite so trendy Grin

noddyholder · 13/02/2011 23:34

these in the brown?

flibbertigibbert · 13/02/2011 23:49

noddyholder - I think you're right about desert boots dating and being 'over' fairly soon. Maybe a much cheaper version would be a good idea.

Can you get away with biker boots and a skirt if you're fat? Probably not is my guess.

I love the Carvela boots with sheepskin.

I've hardly seen anyone wearing desert wedges round my neck of the woods. In fact I've just ordered a second, brown pair

AND I wore them to Sainsburys tonight. WIth a skirt

cyb · 14/02/2011 19:34

Ah, MISs your link was Debbie Magee on all fours

noddyholder · 14/02/2011 19:35

LeChatRouge · 14/02/2011 19:36

AintMissBeehiving your link takes me to a picture of Paul Daniels in a balaclava?

AintMissBeehiving · 14/02/2011 19:40

ROFL - previous link on different thread. Grin I'll find the right one!

cyb · 14/02/2011 19:40

That tickled me

hatcam · 14/02/2011 19:41
