So (please no judgy pants)my sister and I are having a Prom for our joint birthday party in November and I need a dress.

I sorting this early in case I see the perfect dress but need to save up for a bit as the budgets a tad on the slim side....

The prom is Black and white themed for the guests. My sister is wearing Red. I am not sure what colour to go for at all. I'm worried if I wear red too the tones will have to match. Will I have to pick something that will go with her red do you think?

I am a size 14. Classic pear shape so probably something a line I suppose?

Help!!!!!

Is this the kind of style you mean? Caost have quite a few in various colours.

I agree you wouldn't want to wear red if your sister is but equally you wouldn't want to look too matchy-matchy with her unless you are celebrating your joint 16th birthday party. Are you??

No FaffTastic - and I said NO Judging!

Would it be better if I convinced her to call it a Ball? Or something else? We agreed to share our birthdays and she wants a big formal type thing. I am happy to go along with her. Neither of us has had a formal big party before and 'prom' just kind of stuck to be honest.

I don't know if I want long or short - nothing too meringue type though.

Have you tried E-Bay? Some lovely pre-loved dresses on there, maybe something weddingy without a train?

I'm looking Bach - I just have no idea what I want :(

Which colours suit you best? If the guests are wearing black and white and your sister is in red, a good bold colour will make you really stand out! I love Dress shopping!!

Well, I wear greens, greys and earthy tones mostly.

How important is it that our dresses don't clash?

I love the idea of silver or a pale dusky lilac / champagne maybe?

I love greens too but am worried about the clashing thing!

colours - to stand out and contrast with red either cobalt blue or this type of green

Clure · 13/02/2011 21:33

blue and simple

BachAtTheMoon · 13/02/2011 21:38

Green and Red would be very complimentary I think. If you are worried, why not try a few Bridal shops? They should stock dresses for formal occasions, that way you'd be able to see which styles and colours you like the best?

Thanks Clure - I love the green one :)

Not sure on the blue on - I think it needs to be less figure hugging for me. But I like the colours. :)

I think I'll try that Bach.

How about a masquerade ball? Classy, artistic and fun!

Tillyscoutsmum · 13/02/2011 21:51

this

in green maybe

red & black

red

red again

I personally wouldn't worry too much about clashing. You're not going to be standing next to each other all night are you ?
