What's up with bootcut jeans?

Saw a thread on here last week and lots of MNers were of the view that bootcut jeans are fuddy duddy. But why?! For somebody like me whose weight is all in my legs (big thighs, large calfs) they are the only thing. I would look horrible in straight legs or heaven forbid skinny jeans.
PLEASE somebody explain to me.
BTW my jeans are all dark indigo denim and sit below the waist!

I still wear bootcut jeans and trousers, 'skinnies' or anything like that would be very unflattering on me.

Do prefer low-rise jeans though (though that seems to be a minority view!), partly because I'm short so need a smaller rise anyway, and because I have a small waist and wider hips it's more comfortable to have the jeans sit on my hips rather than come up around my waist and have to be cinched in with a belt because the waistband is too big.
