Advice needed from style gurus please ...

Hi

Long time lurker here! I am in awe of all your knowledge and commitment in pursuit of fashion / style and was after some advice please.

I have managed to drag myself into the 21st century this year and bought some knee length boots (tan which I wear with coloured dresses / tunics and leggings etc.) which I LOVE. However, I was going to get some black boots too and really liked these. Before Christmas they were out of stock and I resigned myself that I wouldn't get them. However, they are now back in stock. But not in the sale. So, I don't mind buying them full price if they will be in style next year. However, as I have just got around to buying - and loving - long boots I am rather worried I have jinxed this fashion and next year will be something else.

So, style gurus, what do you think? Will we all be in long boots still? Should I wait for a sale? Crystal balls please ...

Thanks in advance :)

Well, long boots have ALWAYS been around, but there are now ankle ones, shoe boot style, etc etc too.

If you LOVe them get them, but you prob wont get much wear from them before next Autumn/winter

brown boots can be worn with a dress, little cardi etc, black boots a bit too wintry and heavy IMO

Just out of curiousity, what length boots did you wear before??

ilovefred · 12/02/2011 20:11

Hi cyb

I have always worn ankle boots with jeans. Very boring ...

well it depends on the ankle boots. They are all the rage atm

ilovefred · 12/02/2011 20:15

No, boring flat comfy ones. I would wear the long black ones with jeans. Will I look odd next year do you think?

I bought some knee-high'ish black boots fairly recently as were very very reduced and have worn them loads with mini skirts and skinnies.

I think they'll still be around for a while and as long as they're fairly flat you avoid all the Liz Macdonal connotations.

cyb · 12/02/2011 20:16

No you wont look odd..but those boots look enormous around the calf

BelligerentGhoul · 12/02/2011 20:17

Clarks boots tend to be absolutely huge on the calves ime.

BelligerentGhoul · 12/02/2011 20:17

She says, accidentally agreeing with Cyb again!

cyb · 12/02/2011 20:18

I only beat you by 30 seconds

traceybath · 12/02/2011 20:20

And big around the calves is bad - I was transfixed by lady in m&s yesterday with hugely baggy patent/mock croc boots on.

cyb · 12/02/2011 20:21

That was cod

traceybath · 12/02/2011 20:26

She did have curiously big hair that she was swishing round.

notyummy · 12/02/2011 20:31

I have those boots. They are v v comfy. Quite big on the calf though- I have quite big calves from running and there is a little room to spare on me.

ilovefred · 12/02/2011 20:38

Thanks all. I did try them on and they fitted around the calves ... Blush

Will you wear them next year notyummy?

To me these are quite classic, and by that I mean timeless in a way that won't date.

The biker boot is set to be a big look for AW11, expect to see ones with buckles and zips, as well as plainer slouchy suede ones on a chunky sole.

Versatile when it comes to clothing too, a little roomy round the calves means you can tuck your jeans in and you could always team with thick socks showing over the top of the boots over tights and leggings.

Clarks have 20% all boots this weekend, enter Boots11 at the checkout for this discount.....

ilovefred · 12/02/2011 21:13

Thanks LeChatRouge. I would wear them over jeans (makes me feel a bit better about them fitting my calves!)

I have a gift voucher from Christmas - can I use that with the discount this weekend do you know?

You guys are fab. I have no idea what I will wear in the summer let alone next winter!

Would you be going to a Clarks shop to buy them? They also have the discount thing going on - I think it's a valentine special! Am sure you can use your voucher and get the discount, have never bought anything on-line, so not sure how this works....

ilovefred · 12/02/2011 21:33

Thanks. I will give them a call tomorrow and see - unless anyone else knows before then?

notyummy · 12/02/2011 23:12

Oh yes- will wear for next year. I bought them because I thought they were not trendy enough to date quickly- and I needed flattish boots, having plenty of heeled shoots and wedge boots.

whoneedssleepanyway · 13/02/2011 06:43

I really like the look of those boots and I normally give Clarks a wide berth...

I have a very similar pair in dark brown from Timberland which were nearly double the price Envy

I am certain I will still be wearing mine next winter, at the moment I wear them with skinny jeans, leggings, even dresses. I do think though that black ones will look quite heavy (the ones I got did come in black too but didn't like them half as much as the brown)
