I'm not an apple or a pear, I'm a blob, find me a dress?

I have largeish boobs, a fat bit under them, a wide waist, a flabby stomach, a big bum and big thighs.

Dresses for curvy women tend to presume that you're an hour glass. I'm not, pears have smaller tops, apples have nice legs, nope and nope again.

I'm going out for a meal with dh next week to somewhere lovely for the first time in years.

What on earth do I wear?

I'm 47 and 5ft 5 with limited funds Sad

Now come on - lets be a bit positive!

What size are you and what budget?

lilibet · 11/02/2011 18:56
Grin

16 and hopefully less than £50 but if I get an idea of a style I can look for something similar iyswim?

This is lovely and would look fab with black opaque tights and high black heels.

lilibet · 11/02/2011 19:29

I love the material but would those sleeves not make my norks look flabby?

Will go in on Monday and try it on though!

Very strange you should come up with that - this meal is for our 6th wedding anniversary and my wedding dress was called Poppy!

Tis an omen Smile

Spooky Smile

Dorothy Perkins have got some good stuff in at the moment and all very reasonably priced - new look also worth a look.

Have fun shopping.

lilibet, I have similar challenge (but all round larger blobiness). Does it have to be a dress? My mainstay for "occassions" is a slinky fitted pencil skirt and top ... Easier to get two bits and get more wear out of them too. Skirt does heels or boots etc.

lilibet · 11/02/2011 22:12

slinky?

fitted??????

oh dear me, I think you under estimate the blobbiness

I'm rather blobby myself and have recently got 3 of these dresses in different colours. Dresses up or down (heels/biker boots/tights/leggings etc). Very flattering. Washes well. Perfect Smile

fairtradefloozy · 12/02/2011 10:02

By blobby, I mean size 20+ lil - its all relative. I am essentially spherical with a couple of extra lumps on front for norks.

suiledonne · 12/02/2011 10:49

I am similarly blobby OP and I recently bought this dress in Tesco. I wore it going out for a meal with DH and felt very comfortable in it.

I am 5'2ish and size 16-18 btw.

How about this from DottyP? Again with the opaque tight/heels combo.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 12/02/2011 18:06

Also spotted this today.

BelligerentGhoul · 12/02/2011 18:09

The two that Whatswrongwithyou linked to are v pretty but would be bad for norkage I think. You need to be tall and thin for those. I think you need something with a v neck and a defined waist.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 12/02/2011 18:12

Aah but - op has norkage without defined waist, so they would skim over the top and disguise any bumps.

Whereas I have the hourglass norks so those dresses would just increase the space I take up and make me look fat and shapeless.

Hard to tell without trying on though.

slug · 12/02/2011 18:28

OK I am of similar circular shape. this works surprisingly well, outlining the norms while skimming over the tummy

got2bequackers · 12/02/2011 18:29

I tried to copy a link but it wont work on my phone. Try simply be grazia range. I really like the lace dress with big shoulders in black! Hides all kinds of blobs ~ but get 1 size larger than normal

lilibet · 14/02/2011 11:55

Thanks for the suggestions ladies - Slug I lurve that!!
