So what do you do if your feet are a 'half' size?

My feet are 5 and a half and an starting to despair when buying shoes - particularly the court variety. If I buy a size 5, they are far too small but if I buy a size 6, they slip off the back of my feet and make it difficult to walk, and if I want to put a pair of tights on, it becomes almost impossible.

Very few shops sell half-sizes...aagh!!

Have bought some mary jane courts for work (I wear high heels) which seem better as at least there is some resistance with the strap (even though it is an elasticated one) so the shoes aren't slipping off.

Any solutions??

Clarks sell lots of half sizes.

shop in clarks, next or M&S - about the only high street places that do half sizes

ceebeegeebies · 11/02/2011 14:51

As much as I love Clarks, they are not really my style (and a bit too expensive) and I don't want to be limited to one shop!

Bluddy unfortunately that is what I have been doing and DH is starting to get annoyed as I buy shoes, they seem ok when I try them on at home and then I do a days work in them and realise they are exactly the same as the others and they are relegated to the back of the wardrobe Blush

I think I have cracked it with the mary janes but would like to know for the future.

I find that sizes in different shops differ, so I just try on loads of things til I find something that fits. It's annoying tho

tattycoram · 11/02/2011 15:05

Sorry, I see someone else said that

Celery · 11/02/2011 15:52

I'm a 5 and a half too. When wearing courts, I tend to down size to a 5, and suffer the pain, but at least they stay on my feet.

Jellymane · 11/02/2011 16:03

I'm a 5.5 too and get a lot from Clarks. Nine West do half sizes too, although they are even more expensive. There are still a few bargains to be had in the Kurt Geiger sale though - here

shodatin · 11/02/2011 17:22

I'm a six and a half, and if I can't find the half-size, I sometimes get a seven and use an insole, particularly with boots.

RedwingWinter · 11/02/2011 18:53

I'm a 5.5 too and it's really annoying that they don't do all shoes in half sizes. The only brand I find I can size down in is Chie Mihara where the 38.5 is actually too big for me but a 38 works well. Might work for you too? (or it might just be my feet). I used to buy size 5s sometimes but have given up because it never works out; if they don't have half sizes then it's not worth the money. Next time you find some you like in the right size, maybe you should buy it in more than one colour?!

RedwingWinter · 11/02/2011 18:58

These aren't in the sale but I quite like the look of these www.kurtgeiger.com/online-shop/198503-nine-west-peggyfo

Thanks for all the messages - it seems that I am not alone in this and there is not simple answer.

Ruby do those gel things work? I have used them in the past and they just became all scrunched up and crinkled therefore weren't any use whatsoever!

Another one who buys most non-boots in Clarks. Sorry!

BlackBag · 11/02/2011 20:43

5.5 here and feel doomed to ill fitting shoes. My wellies are the best fit at the moment so I find myself wearing them all the time - summer and winter. [weird looks from mums at school gate]

ceebeegeebies · 11/02/2011 20:57

Blackbag yes, my best fit are my Skecher pull-on trainers and my boots - can't wait till summer and can get my flip-flops and sandals on as it doesn't seem so noticeable Smile

On the plus side, I have just ordered some lovely girly ballet pumps from H&M....and they were in the girls section which only goes up to 5.5 so I have been able to buy them so there are some perks to having feet that size Grin
