Chinese nail bars

FluffyMummy123 · 10/02/2011 15:01

i have just discoevred out local one.
its SO SO cheap, the only down side is the limited communication, still no chats about holidays which is GOOD

a polish change ( which they also add a file and cuticle work) is only FIVE POUNDS

and lasts forever

what is with the growth of chinese nail bars? and what are the little plastic pots with peoples names on?

i'm in a London borough which is abundant with asian population eg New Malden which has a huge Korean population. I go to Nail City in Tolworth
I'll never go anywhere else, don't need an appointment yet they're always busy! just super efficient

lololizzy · 10/02/2011 17:27

I would check out anywhere with a high asian population but possibly not indian asian as in those areas i have not seen nail bars

I used to pay £60 in Hertfordshire for the gels. I dreaded the salon as was always like being on set of Loose Women or something. Hated all the 'what's for dinner tonight' 'have you been on your hols yet' chit chat and worse the staff gossiping all day about their love lives etc..i'm not a girly girl.
When i discovered my cheapy salon i at first thought them rude because of no hellos or goodbyes, in fact no thankyous! You just say what you want and that's it. No 'can you please move your hand' or anything..they just grab it!!
Then i realised i was being a little 'too English' and their english isn't great either.
I absolutely love the no talking, i can just slip into a little dreamworld (though that could be down to all the chemicals??!)

Chinese/Vietnamese nail bars are the BEST! Cheap and no awkward forced conversation, what's not to like!

HeroShrew · 10/02/2011 18:33

There are tons in London, Abs - Richmond, Hammersmith, Chiswick all have them. Whereabouts are you?

lololizzy · 10/02/2011 19:00

re those areas... Tolworth cheapest i've found, so far.

Meggles76 · 10/02/2011 19:31

Went a while back to have gel overlays redone. Didn't realise that they didn't take cards - only cash. Forced me to leave my mobile phone with them while I went to cash point to get cash!!!!

PlumSykes · 10/02/2011 19:35

Used to go one in Finsbury Park. All the girls doing manis were great, but for some VERY odd reason, if you had a pedi you had to have the quite old man do it, on your own in a back room!

If you have tips, they do tend to use an electric buffer instead of doing it by hand, which totally buggers your nails underneath, btw.

traceybath · 10/02/2011 20:31

Plum that sounds seriously dodgy re. the pedicures!

lololizzy · 10/02/2011 21:13

Meggles you mean Tolworth? i got caught with that too!

Sierra19 · 11/02/2011 00:46

The reason for so many shops run by Vietnamese (in my area at least) is that a lot of them are a frog for cannabis factories (to launder money and occasionally run on the premises as well). I work for fire service and we often inspect premises such as these with all sorts of dodgy things going on. Of course this is not the case for all, but ALOT are a front for criminal activity.

Sierra19 · 11/02/2011 00:46

Frog lol should read front

AbsDuCroissant · 11/02/2011 07:14

NWish for living, and City for work. I'm in totally the wrong areas for cheapy stuff e.g. my colleagues and I were discussing getting eyebrows threaded - one colleague goes to a cheapy place on weekends (£5) but didn't have to time to go, so we were looking at places in the city - £15! and one place £20

moragbellingham · 11/02/2011 08:01

Abs - are you near the Jubilee line? Good one right next to a stop in NW London.

AbsDuCroissant · 11/02/2011 08:04

Yes - Jubilee. Which stop?

moragbellingham · 11/02/2011 08:08

Finchley Road. Turn right and it's next to the N.African eating experience with dodgy bar downstairs Smile
There also used to be a brilliant girl who repaired my crap Nails Inc nails in Essensuals up the road too.

AbsDuCroissant · 11/02/2011 08:10

Yay! They're a mess at the moment, might even try and go this weekend

lololizzy · 11/02/2011 22:48

went today and oh the 'anonymity' !! i'm a regular..ie every 3 or 4 weeks..but there's never any glimpse recognition, or hello or goodbye (or even thanks)...i don't mind, they are so cheap!

wellwisher · 12/02/2011 08:40

Princess Nails on Fulham Palace Road is nice - it's moved upmarket over the years but is still reasonably priced, and quick!

shopalot · 21/02/2011 20:31

Anyone know of a nail bar in the south east? I can do Guildford, Horsham, Crawley and surrounding areas. Would love a recommendation if possible.

otchayaniye · 21/02/2011 21:09

Money laundering purposes from the drug/prostitution trade.

They are of a high standard though.

I used to get mainland Chinese ones all the time in SIngapore. Nothing fancy but very good finish.
