I need a new winter coat.

I'm a top heavy size 12/14 so it needs to have a waist or I look pregnant.

This is way out of budget but I think I like...

coast

Should I be put off by its hideous name?

Not sure about double breasted over top heavy? How about this

bagpusswasthebest · 10/02/2011 18:53

Bravissimo coats. Always!

cruelladepoppins · 10/02/2011 20:22

Sorry OP I don't think it will look flattering on a top-heavy person.

Are you sure you want a winter coat at this stage in the year? [tight-fisted emoticon]

muddleduck · 10/02/2011 22:16

Really?

I think it is the perfect shape for me.

I think the shape is OK but the colour is horrible. Impossible to keep clean.

Can vouch for the flatteringness of this for booby-waisted figure.
Plus nice and cheap so you're not paying loads of cash at the end of the season.
Coast one is quite shapely, but is effectively double-breasted as it's so wide across the chest.
In fact, New Look have two or three others in a similar shape (tailored for a feminine shape, single breasted and not boxy or too long).

So I took a gamble and ordered it.

I love it.

Without the belt it is ok. But the belt makes it really flattering.
For the first time I think I'm going to ignore the mn consensus :)
