I don't want to go into the salon and look like an idiot because I don't know what I'm asking for.

I have always coloured my hair with home semi-permanent kits. Now I want to go a shade of red that basically needs some peroxide, so I don't want to even attempt it myself.

I don't want a block of colour, I want it to be done with different shades and foils like they do with highlights.

What am I asking for? If I ask for permanent colour, will they just do a block of one shade?

Oh the stress.

Dont't worry, not worth stressing about.

The tricky bit is knowing what you want, and you do!!
Just choose va hairdresser yjat you know is good (word of mouth your best bet) call in prior to discuss what you want- tell them exactly what you're after- have the allergy test (a must!!) and book your appointment.

This is very common, and most hairdressers do this day in, day out!
At least you know what u want!!

Will you be going to your usual hairdresser for this, if not then you want a consultation first. Take a photograph of what you want doing with you, you want lowlights by the way.

IME reds fade quicker than other colours so (if you want what I think you want) the colour will need touching up quite regularly.

MarionCole · 10/02/2011 12:09

I'll be going to my usual hairdresser, they scare me though, they always make me feel scruffy and unglamorous!

OK, low lights, find a picture, talk to them first, get an allergy test.

Not too worried about the fading because I'm likely to get bored and want a change anyway.

Do you have a college near you with a hairdressing dept? If so go there, it's so much cheaper, will take longer but you have a student who wants to impress you so won't do what s/he wants but what you want and you have the tutors overseeing it!

Go in and ask for consultation.

I don't have solid all-one colour. I get 3 shades of carmels, toffee's and blondes then the rest of mine coloured deep chesnut.

I pay £37 for it.

This is the colour I want, hair is a similar length too

Have you tried the swarkopf live reds?

MarionCole · 10/02/2011 22:04

No I haven't, have always been a bit scared of home permanent colour. Are they good?

Gosh

Read this thread as hair dye vagina

Was intrigued.

Lesson learnt don't read threads on Iphone after 3 glasses of wine.

Take the picture with you to show what you want and then see what they recommend.
