Hi all,

I am going to a wedding next month, and would like your help with what to wear. Problems are as follows- most dresses are too short (I am 5'10" ish) and I hate everything from my knees to my waist. I won't wear anything fitted around the hip region. I am mostly a 12, but with 30GG bra size, so a lot of clothes don't fit up top, and my waist is the slimmest bit of me.

I also have 7 feet but wide so nice shoes are a problem- I can only wear wide fit shoes, usually from next as most are too granny-esque in style!

Please help me nice people!

I wanted to suggest a 50s-style prom dress, but not sure how you'd get on getting a size big enough to fit your boobs which wouldn't be massive at the waist.

How about a pretty knee-length swingy skirt, with a shirt tucked into it. I'm not blessed-of-nork myself, but I hear Bravissimo do stuff for those who are.

Also, New Look do a wide-fit shoe range, and many of the styles are the same as their standard range.

Depending on the material I would get it altered at the waist, but this works better with more structured fabric obviously, not chiffons etc.
Lol at 'blessed of nork'- I love that word!

My sister is tall and sounds like she's built a bit like you (although her boobs are a C/D cup) and she looks amazing in things like this. The sizing on these can come up a little small, so I'd be tempted to go up a couple of sizes to make sure it fits your boobs.

You'd need to get a separate petticoat to make it stick out like in the picture, but they're not expensive -- £25ish from ebay. Even if you don't, though, this style still looks nice. They're usually made from a slightly stretchy cotton mix, so they hold their shape quite nicely.

Thanks Kiki, I really like the shape, but I think the prints are a bit retro for me. I might do some searches for 50s style dresses on ebay!

Bravissimo have a 50's dress with corsage, very pretty. Go to dresses & it's the first one top left :)

I saw that one, I really like it, just thinking black's not really right for a day time wedding.
Keep the suggestions coming please! All ideas helpful!!

Definitely look on ebay. Polka dots are lovely if you don't like the prints but don't want it completely plain.

KikiJane · 07/02/2011 17:34

I love this one. It would be gorgeous with a little shrug and these or these (depending on whether or not you want a heel).

Angry I meant this

Have you tried LongTallSally. I'm afraid links don't seem to be working for me at the minute, but have a look at

www.longtallsally.com/tall/dresses/above-the-knee/long-sleeve-jersey-dress/indigo?category=f-013_dresses

www.longtallsally.com/tall/dresses/above-the-knee/cap-sleeve-ponte-dress/red?category=f-013_dresses

I am a 32H,and these styles tend to suit me.
They have lots of others on the site.

Hmm, food for thought. What would you wear with the red one to make a wedding-y outfit? I'd be pulling out the spanx for sure!

I think the black is OK for weddings as it's sheer & floaty (not funeral-y IFSWIM), I'd wear a silver sparkly shrug & silver jewellery (maybe pewter colour) with tanned limbs. There was quite alot of black at the wedding I went to in July, actually made a nice change from all the hideous floral ensembles! Always chic n'est ce pas? :)

woopsidaisy · 08/02/2011 11:44

Yes Spanks always good. Although I LOVE the Trinny and Susannah All In One Body Smoother, which you can get in Debenhams. Then it doesn't roll down because it has sleeves, and is a slip too. Perfect. Nice and long for us tall ladies too.
I love Bravissimo,But their dresses can be short,(the tops are VERY short), and I am 5'8''.
You could glam up the dress with lots of bangles from accessorise. Some glam earings too. I'd avoid a necklace with boobs.Or a lovely gold cuff.
Have you got a Tango Plunge? These are great,if not essential with low cut dresses. Gives a great lifted shape, but no bra poking out at the neckline. they do them in Bravissimo and Debenhams too.
Thanks for doing the link. Bit of a pain,as I can't do them at all on my new laptop! Boo!

Got my links working!
