Really odd question about makeup storage on dressing table!?

navyeyelasH · 06/02/2011 16:49

I hate the way all my make up containers are different on my makeup/dressing table. I store most of my occasional makeup in a box out of the way but I'm trying to think of a way to give my day makeup (which is always on the table) a more uniform "look". But I can't find any pots etc that enable me to keep things separate. ie. foundation in one pot, blusher in one pot, eye-liners in one pot, mascara in one pot, brushes in one pot etc.

I do have mild OCD yes before anyone says anything Wink. In my bathroom my shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel are stored separately in soap dispensers (sort of like this) and things like razor and tampons are stored in a small jar with a lid.

Am I making and sense?!?!

This may not work but what about having some kind of box to put all your things inside. I had a problem with my jewellery getting everywhere so went to Hobbycraft and found some really handy boxes with compartments in that fit into a drawer and keep it all organised.

In my boxes the insides can be altered to customise the size of compartments so you could fit stuff in.

navyeyelasH · 06/02/2011 16:59

This is going to sounds loony at least I'm aware of that but the idea of a box on the table makes it seem desky to me and not makeup tabley if that makes sense? Maybe I just need to find a nice enough box?

I also have quite a lot of boxes in the room for shoes, bags, belts etc Sad. I think I was sort of hoping for some sort of decorative answer. A bit like those old school perfume bottles with the puffer things on the end?

Maybe something like this but in black?

I got a set of 2 baskety drawers recently that sit on my dressing table...make up all bunged together in the bottom drawer and hairbrushes in the top one.

Not sure if that's separate enough for you though?

higgle · 06/02/2011 18:17

Lakeland have these - small ones and large ones www.lakeland.co.uk/F/product/40117

MmeLindt · 06/02/2011 18:19

I have one similar to this

navyeyelasH · 06/02/2011 18:21

Thanks both, Tassisssss you're right I want it to be really separate so I can immediately identify what is what. Otherwise I'm the type of person who would keep filling the basket till it was full to the brim and would have to tip everything out to find something!

Higgle, I'm not really keen on the stly eof that (but thanks for the idea!) has a look on a place for everything and they had something like this which might be as good as it's going to get. Even though I don't like the "HERE IS MY MAKEUP"ness of it IYSWIM?

God, I'm annoying!

I know what you mean, I would like something like that too!

I quite like some of the jewellery storage on Past Times, like this one www.pasttimes.com/jewellery-boxes/art-deco-jewellery-chest/invt/817545/

emsyj · 06/02/2011 18:30

There is some more 'utility' style stuff on House of Bath. I quite like this www.houseofbath.co.uk/shop/product/details/show.action?pdLpUid=CY075&pdBoUid=1337&lpgUid=11175960#colour:,size:

I dream of one of those giant silver metal trolley cases that proper make-up artists have, bu have no space for one (and nowhere near enough lovely make-up to fill one).

Have you searched on make up artist supply sites etc?

MmeLindt · 06/02/2011 18:35

I fancy one like this

navyeyelasH · 06/02/2011 18:37

oh emsyj, I like the second one. I can spray it black too to fit in with the room. By far the best yet!

I've no idea what you mean by "silver metal trolley cases" but am off to scour!

Thanks.

I was just on that site swooning at the giant fold out trolley cases MmeLindt!

bibbitybobbityhat · 06/02/2011 18:39

I think you need to resist your impulses, tbh. Otherwise you will suffer from ocd all of your life.

navyeyelasH · 06/02/2011 18:49

bibbitybobbityhat - I do resist most of them. But if I don't have a home for things I quickly get swamped by clutter as I'm not a naturally tidy person. My ocd tendencies just mean I like to keep splitting things IYSWIM?

I think this might be a wholesale site, but this kind of thing?

QueeferSutherland · 06/02/2011 18:54

Has anyone linked to Muji?

thomasbodley · 06/02/2011 19:05

I use Muji for organising everything, they never seem to discontinue anything and all their systems seem to fit together really well.

higgle · 06/02/2011 22:29

I keep mine in the skip thing I used to keep my horses grooming kit in when I had one - so not really qualified to advise on stylish storage. I like to have a handle to carry it about so also tried a cutlery holder - too small for everything.

Lulie110 · 07/02/2011 01:41

A 3rd vote for Muji from me!
Clear acrylic so easy to keep clean, you get every shape of storage to hold various types of makeup, and per thomasbodley's comment, they never seem to discontinue it... so you can keep adding to it as you buy more slap treasures.

navyeyelasH · 07/02/2011 22:44

I like the idea of the muji, as in all the separate containers. But I wanted something a bit more camouflaged but not box like Confused

Sometimes I annoy myself!

A jewelry or sewing box?

Stores shed-loads

Pootles2010 · 08/02/2011 14:12

Do you have a drawer you could keep it all in, with dividers inside it?

tulpe · 08/02/2011 14:36

How about these or this from Laura Ashley?

crazybutterflylady · 10/02/2011 08:45

For those of you looking at the make up boxes... they are on sale at BrandAlley... here
