KEW is so disappointing now

%-6 years back I used to go to Kew and try to stop spending.

I received the catalogue yesterday and went to the shop, andit's hopeless.

it all looks distinctly middle aged- or skirts are so short they are like belts.

Summer dresses are over £100 for silk- and they used to be the poor person's Jigsaw.
Or is this just me?

BUT at lease they have binned the sack dresses

I always used to love Jigsaw- used to wish and wish I had more money.

the biggest issue for me with them is the dresses tend to be very dressy- don't have that lifestyle- or loose and maternity style which don't suit me at 5'3 and size 8-10.

Kew's colours for the past 2-3 years have been dark and murky- navy and claret etc which are not my colours.

Also, the silk print dresses look great on tall 20 something models, but frumpy on 50s women like me, who are tiny.
why is it that prints look good on young people but Mumsy on older mums?

yes, getting more and more wary of prints as I get older (only forty though, still alive and kicking). But massive prints make me look like a clown and tiny prints look so mumsy....

I like, forexample, a black dress that has a bit of a print on it. Like just on the skirt, or just on the top. Or a patterned rim or something like that. why's it so hard to find?

ValiumSandwichTime · 06/02/2011 17:33

oh yes j crew. Big difference!

I just bought the Navy Leather across body bag from the spring collection and I love it.

Agree with others that their dresses do nothing for me. I am 5ft and a size 8 -10 and they are just too long and the proportions wrong

Kew has definitely gone downhill, it's a shame as I used to buy lots there. The basic styles never seem to change - it's a bit like White Stuff in that way.

They also need a whole new colour palette - no more drab, dark colours - mole and the like. Some of the new floral prints are nice, but imo it's very overpriced for what it is.

I do like those beaded sandals though.. shame they aren't in until April!

I just can't do prints... I'm not really very good with colour either, I'm afraid. Turned off by both.

Meggles76 · 07/02/2011 20:00

The beaded sandals are definitely on my wish list. I also like some of the cardis

I agree it's very dull in there. Although I did buy a lovely minky coloured skirt and a blue scoop neck top but really couldnt find anything to go with it. I must say their new catalogue did make the clothes look good though but I think they are quite ££ so if you were to buy everything from them to replicate the look it woudl be very expensive. I do like their salespeople though as they are not too intrusive. They got a box of bricks out for my 2 year old DS which made shopping with him much more pleasant.

I've been going to Mistral for the last couple of years instead. They have lovely colours.
