curvy short arse needs a relaxed dinner outfit

This is my first thread on this part of the forum, so please be gentle ;-)

Ok, I'm 40, but still feel 20 and am looking for an outfit that I can wear to dinner at Fifteen cornwall. I've been here a few times so I know it's a relaxed affair, but I always feel so drab.

I'm about 5 ft, so a short arse and I have an hour glass figure that sits around a size 10. I hate my heavy thighs and have fat knees, so I avoid anything that may show these.

Now when I'm on holiday, as I will be here, I tend to blow up around the tummy so I can't wear my nice jeans to dinner as they dig in and are uncomfortable. So I'm looking for something to avoid the muffin and tummy and is relaxed in the waist area, yet still gives me a much needed definition in that area.

I've been thinking about a knee length floaty dress over either black leggings or black opaques and heels?

Any ideas please? Smile

Have just bought this as a curvy, short size 8 and think it would fit the bill. Currently 20% off in stores/online.

www.scenedead.co.uk

Think that works. If not just google Scene Dead.

Hi!

I'm having a snuffle round for you but have a few questions - Budget? Your colouring? What colours do you like to wear?

too fitted? 'tis jersey so not as formal as it looks at first glance - the draping here would be quite forgiving. The black is nice, but plenty of choice of colours

nicole333 · 05/02/2011 21:04

Wow you guys are good!!

Ok, my colouring. I've had a Colour me beautiful analysis and I'm a deep and cool and clear. In other words strong and contrasting. I can't do wishy/washy colours. My actual colouring is dark brown hair and hazel eyes with pale skintone.

I love the whistles dress, but from experience my babylons are a little too big to get away with a neck line that high. But saying that, being a short arse a lot of neck lines are automatically over plunging and I end up having to wear vest tops under things which can ruin the look.

The Asos dress is way too clingy and short for my body unfortunetly.

My budget is around the normal high st mark, so I'd feel a little uncomfortable shelling out for the Whistles dress. I suppose I don't like to stand out too much and am not confident enough to pull off a whacky look.

Really looking forward to seeing all the ideas! Thanks Smile

Nicole, I'm a 32 F and it looks lovely - surprising really, but was recommend by another large-of-chest lady so gave it a whirl. You should try.

Hadn't read last sentence. Would look for similar shapes to that one - the nipped in silhouette works. Think Joan Holloway. How about this?

TinyD4ncer · 05/02/2011 21:58

Im 5ft, size 10 (massive love handles though) Hmm and I bought this recently, needed it in a size 8 too which made me even happier.

streachy material, and lightweight and because it goes in under the boobs hides tummy, love handles ect.

Glam it up too if you like, I wore mine with diamond earings and a diamond necklace, looked lovly if i dont mind saying so myself Grin

Looks alot shorter in the picture, but being 5ft it came to a nice lenth.

I love that Topshop dress, but it's too short for my heavy thighs and fat knees! Booooo!

Red I can't access that Mango link, it just goes to their home page, which seems the norm on here unfortunetly.

What do you think about something like this...www.dorothyperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33053&storeId=12552&productId=2262922&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=228107&parent_categoryId=226988&sort_field=Relevance&pageSize=200

Darn too short again I suppose, aswell as that high neck. I never normally do Dotty P's but that caught my eye.

its not short on nicole as im too only 5ft comes just above the knees x

TinyD4ncer · 05/02/2011 23:55

Hmmmm I would like that DP one for a summer garden party but not sure about dinner out.

nicole333 · 06/02/2011 00:09

Thanks Tiny, I may order that one online and see how it looks. I've also seen another one on their website.

I see what you mean about the DP one, but the place I'm going to is on the beach with a really relaxed vibe. It would be seen as dressy compared to what I've seen people wearing there most of the time!

I don't think that actual dress is me, but I like the cut, like it skims, but still defines a waist area.

I really appreciate all the ideas, keep 'em coming! Thanks everyone!
