is it me or is Jean Jacket a really out-dated phrase? Do people know what it means?

Isnt Jean jacket what Americans call Denim jackets?

Or am I being naive? Grin

FrancesFarmer · 04/02/2011 22:52

It sounds like the casual equivalent of pant suit i.e. American and cringey.

cybbo · 04/02/2011 22:53

No everyone calls them jean jackets!

MissMarjoribanks · 04/02/2011 22:54

My 85yo grandma calls them jean jackets. She is the only person I have ever heard use this phrase.

She is from the Midlands, not America.

DuelingFanjo · 04/02/2011 22:59

my mum is the one who calls them jean jackets, she's making one. I took the piss out of her for saying it but she showed me the pattern and there it was - 'jean jacket' - but she says it's what she always called them. I said they were called denim Jackets.

MissMarjoribanks my mum is from the Midlands, maybe it's a Midlands thing.

East Mids though Dueling or West?

Grandma is from the East, I'm from the West Mids and we never used the phrase. Not heard it up here in Mancland either.

mathanxiety · 04/02/2011 23:20

I thought it was American too. I call them denim jackets.

sue52 · 04/02/2011 23:46

They are denim jackets around my way. I have a favourite dating from the mid seventies that I still wear.
