I've got my brother's wedding in May and need a frock Sad. It's Sad because I can never find anything I like and which suits my odd shape.

I'm looking for...

  1. Something for a shortarse (I'm 5')
  2. Something with a little bit of shoulder/upper arm cover
  3. Something which is fairly forgiving around the tummy area.
  4. A size 12
  5. Something which has a neckline which flatters a large cleavage (32GG)
  6. Isn't black/dark blue/dowdy

Not much to ask, I know Blush. Please help me!

too long

madammecholet · 03/02/2011 18:26

Budget?

Coca · 03/02/2011 18:27

ooh meant to be a question rather than a statement Blush

Coca · 03/02/2011 18:29

I like this one but you said no black

funtimewincies · 03/02/2011 18:33

I couldn't justify going over £100 but could go to the top end of that for such a special occasion.

I've tried bravissimo clothes before, but they just seem to be made for much taller people than me. Sometimes the necklines are close to my bellybutton Grin!

Thanks for starting the search so quickly Smile.

Oh just read your budget - scrap all of the above...will look again..:)

funtimewincies · 03/02/2011 18:40

The first one is really lovely madammecholet Sad.

Colours-wise, greens, aquas, some blues and earthy colours suit my pinky skin tone.

I think you probably need something from a petite range (I too am 5'1)
asos red pencil
spots

madammecholet · 03/02/2011 18:58

Clure I have that red asos dress in black, it fits like a glove, (not petite version mind..Blush), is v v v sexy and comfortable.

Great for a wedding, dress up with black accessories...

funtimewincies · 03/02/2011 19:43

You're all so lovely spending time hunting for me Smile.

The 2 Dorothy Perkins ones look like they might be worth ordering to try on. The one with the floaty bits is very much my colour. I so wish that I could wear red Envy but it makes me look like I've been hitting the booze before I've even started Grin.

My mum would never forgive me if I wore straight black for a wedding, but the spotty one looks nice.

worth keeping a look at Warehouse website, i find a lot of their clothes fit petite well

Clure · 03/02/2011 21:23

madamesholet I love that red dress too. Do the pockets stick out at all? Quite tempted myself!

madammecholet · 03/02/2011 21:56

Clure not on me. ver ver nice dress and great value....

I have worn to a few parties and get loads of comments...you do need good underwear on though and it does show some cleavage..:)

Clure · 03/02/2011 22:11

alas I have no cleavage Sad

funtimewincies · 04/02/2011 12:30

Well, I've ordered the aqua and the dark green dresses from DP to try on (and found a 20% code into the bargain Grin) so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I find that the problem with petite ranges is that they presume that because you're short, you must be tiny all over and, as I'm large of nork, end up getting a 12/14 which can be huge across the shoulders or hips.

Funny, though, I'm Envy of ladies with small cleavages. We all want what we haven't got I suppose Grin.

funtimewincies - you are so right, it's swings and roundabouts! hope your dresses are right for you

funtimewincies · 05/02/2011 09:28

Oh poo-sticks! The dresses arrived this morning, but the aqua one really doesn't suit me at all. The dark green one wouldn't even go over my books and there are no size 14 left.

I hate shopping for clothes Sad.

You need to go to town and try on lots funtime, take a good friend and have a wine filled lunch to boot.....you'll find it then!

funtimewincies · 05/02/2011 18:26

What we're missing in this part of the world is some decent boutiques.

My local town (which is large and is bidding for city status) has only the same old high street shops which I traipsed around today. I think that they've lost their way, as I couldn't find a single thing that I wanted to try on, let alone buy. Hideous 70's prints (not on my 5' body Confused) or dresses that look like they fell from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.

Our nearest city is Chester, which at least is big enough to have petite ranges in it's shops, but again there are so few shops where I might find something nice and simple and, well, elegant.

Arghh! On the plus side, I found some shoes which fit, which is also a rarity so some progress Smile.

Sorry if it sounds like I'm whingeing Sad. I daren't ask a friend to come any more. They look at me like I'm mad if I warn them that it might be a bit of a hunt and then you can see them losing the will after the 5th shop Grin.

If you're big of nork, does it have to be petite or would simply shortening a normal length work? Only ask as my mum is 5 foot, but struggles with petite dresses because her boobs are big so tends to do this!

How big/dressy a wedding is it? would you prefer something slightly more casual, jersey fabric etc, or is something moving into cocktail dress/evening wear territory an option?

Litchick · 05/02/2011 19:00

over budget
