How long to stay long?

Question.
Mum's just told me I need to cut all my hair off as I'm 'getting to that age'. I'm 32 btw.

I've spent literally YEARS since before having DS1 trying to grow it, it's now just above my bottom.

I'm tackling the greys religiously, I don't want that yet (I'd be completely grey without colour) but mum says I'll look weird with long hair soon.

So is that an old fashioned concept or do you think I can get away with long hair for longer?

Depends on the style and if it's well cared-for.

A lovely, shiny curtain of hair can look lovely. But sadly most of the long hair I see on women is of the uneven length, split ends, greasy, centre-parted type.

I'm 39 and have long hair and do not look weird or wrong in any way.

notinmypocket · 02/02/2011 13:53

My hair is NOT of the horrible kind described by kiki

Just above the bottom is for little girls IMO. I woldn't say you need to cut it short though. Long grey hair looks witchy to me.

Ohhhhh no.... I have it coloured every six weeks, it's well conditioned and cut regularly all to one length.

Defo not grey!!!!

Oh - I missed the point of just above the bottom. Yes, that is a bit too long.

Keep dyeing and cut to a nice middle of back length.

Glitterknickaz · 02/02/2011 14:03

it is centre parted though.... hmmmmm

Of course you're not too old to have long hair but, ime, the length you have is too long on anyone. I would take 6 inches off and get some (very) long layers put in. Your hair will look so much better.

squeaver · 02/02/2011 14:05

Yes, take the centre parting out. It's draining on anyone who's not a supermodel.

Glitterknickaz · 02/02/2011 14:06

Right. I'm in for a colour tomorrow so I'm ringing my hairdresser see if she's free.

years ago a little old lady used to come into the cafe where i worked

she was teeny tiny and at least late 80s

she had beautiful long silver hair in a plait down her back, it looked lovely and i told her so. she said she had never had it cut :)

Glitterknickaz · 02/02/2011 14:09

I'm having a restyle of the top without losing toooo much length. I do get people asking if I have extensions as it's in such good nick.

Why does it seems to be some sort of rule that once you get past a 'certain age', you have to cut all your hair off? My DP's nan is 65 and has beautiful long hair down to the middle of her back!
