Potential meeting at trendy London graphic designers - what to wear?!!

Finbar · 31/01/2011 13:20

What do I wear to look professional ( and therefore worth the money they are paying me for consultancy) but also contemporary and a good match for ethos of their company?

I like to look smart, and did spend my former pre children life in retail buying offices of some major players - where all the women seemed to wear black Joseph suits and white t shirts.....
But to all you bang-on-trend types out there - please tell me what will work for a small graphic design environment now

Finbar · 31/01/2011 16:58

I thought a suit might be too formal ?

FluffyMummy123 · 31/01/2011 17:24

suit groovied up with t shirt and neckelace?

notwavingjustironing · 31/01/2011 17:26

Something deconstructed?

You know, those dresses that look like they are origami?

With good shoes and understated jewellery

dickcheeseandthecrackers · 31/01/2011 17:30

God my DH works for a massive digital agency and they are VERY casual.
Jeans with boots
skirts with boots
dresses with boots
etc etc
You get the theme. Have you had a look on their company website? It might give you some pictures of the personnel.

FluffyMummy123 · 31/01/2011 17:35

fin
casual seems to be the namae de la game

LetLoveRule · 31/01/2011 17:38

I used to work in such a place and it was really anything goes. Having said that, if you want to impress smart jeans with nice shoes/boots would be totally be fine. Top/shirt and little jacket and funky jewellery. That was my uniform anyway! I wouldn't have been expected to wear a corporate type suit even to meet clients.

BelaLugosiinStripes · 31/01/2011 20:25

Are you visiting where Katie works?

Finbar · 31/01/2011 20:56

No - but I should be!!

OP posts:
Finbar · 31/01/2011 20:59

NOw - all your comments are spot on ...except that I can't do skinnies.
And I'm past doing the 20-30 year old stuff - so that probably makes things a wee bit more challenging
apart from that - all is fab

Good God, this would be my idea of a nightmare - unreconstructed, casual and funky, skinnies, etc. Confused

Oh dear. I'm hyperventilating just thinking about it.

How tall/fat/old?

FellatioNelson · 31/01/2011 21:32

www.labellabridal.co.uk/wedding-dresses/victoria-jane/WDVJ005/ this?]] With trendy accessories and coloured tights?

FellatioNelson · 31/01/2011 21:32

Whoops - wrong link, sorry. Blush

FellatioNelson · 31/01/2011 21:33

this?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 31/01/2011 21:38

DH runs creative agency in EC1. He generally looks like he's just woken up in a bush somewhere. Grin Unless he's got a meeting.

Do you do dresses? Can you wear a stylish yet funky dress with black opaques and knee length boots.

I think a black trouser suit is a little OTT but as you are a consultant they won't judge. Esp if you are consulting on non-designy things.

FellatioNelson · 31/01/2011 21:41

this?

Do we want a dress or not really?

eyebrowqueen · 31/01/2011 21:42

what about something from cos? Do you know that shop? It's sort of smart but a bit different. Vivid colours and flattering cuts. V simple and avoids the obvious trendy looks. Not sure about buying online though

FellatioNelson · 31/01/2011 21:43

Bugger. same link twice. Sorry! Grin
I would go for something that you will definitely wear again and funk it up with statement jewellery.

tethersend · 31/01/2011 22:04

Gah.

Can't believe I'm going to link to it for the umpteeth time, but a VWA dress would be perfect. Here or Here

Or go for a full skirt and a blazer.

MegBusset · 31/01/2011 22:07

All the graphic designers I know are right scruffy bastards who wouldn't know style if it hit them between the eyebrows so I wouldn't worry too much Grin

CarolinaRua · 31/01/2011 22:12

Whistles - anything from there should do the job

the parrot print dress with a black blazer would be good www.whistles.co.uk/fcp/categorylist/dept/Dresses?resetFilters=true#ID=productClose

sharbie · 31/01/2011 22:15

yy go for a dress and boots not too corporate wd be my guess
