The leggins/tights under hotpants look......?

Any tips on how best to wear it?

I'm off to Primark on Tuesday to get a couple more scarves and accessories, dp saw some hotpants in there (denim type ones with lace bits around the hems) & I thought I might give the look a go if we've enough cash to cover a random purchase since he always looks at hotpants & tells me I'd look good in them (also because primark is cheap so I'd get away with only a couple of wears if I felt a plonker in them). I just wonder if there's a certain way to wear them so I don't look a complete fool Confused, or should I just leave well alone?

My sister wears them all the time & they look good but I don't want to seem as though I'm copying her style, just want to try something out for myself

Just don't do it.

lucysmam · 29/01/2011 14:37

& now I've read that back I'll probably leave to the more able to put together their own 'look' kinda people I see in them

Dare I ask how old you are?

Or perhaps, more importantly, how old do you look?

I think that makes all the difference.

pinkhebe · 29/01/2011 14:45

fine if you're a pre teen or young slim teen, otherwise bedroom only Grin

lucysmam · 29/01/2011 14:48

I'm 29 (just) but look about 25, Ooops

pinkhebe, I think that's where they may be destined for. I'm a very slim definately not a teen though

Slim and look 25? - yes go for it.

I am slim and toned but at 42 I know these days are over for me!

Wear 'em while you can.

lucysmam · 29/01/2011 14:58

What kind of shoes would you wear with them?

My sister wears some lovely little flat gold sandals that are kinda like the gladiator style ones but not quite. But it's a bit freezing outside for sandals I think

Maybe I'll just grab an armful of stuff to try on with them & see how daft lovely I look

DD wears pixie boots with hers.

Lovely dangly scarves and chunky bracelets!.

Oh - to be young again!

Cyb · 29/01/2011 15:05

I think tweedy shorts can look ok with thick ribbed tights and chunky boots

But denim hotpants with lacy bits? NON

lucysmam · 29/01/2011 15:08

Oh, & I didn't think they sounded that bad, I just kinda glanced when dp picked them up & didn't pay much attention.

Not very keen on ribbed tights....maybe I ought to try a different look in my search for my own style. Maybe by the time I'm 50 I'll find it Hmm

(& I have no clue whatsoever what pixie boots are)

Hahaha!!!

Pixie boots is what we called them back in the '80s!!!!!!!

Ankle boots.

I feel really old now! DD is laughing at me (but she does know what I mean by pixie boots!)

You young people, honestly! Don't know you're born!

lucysmam · 29/01/2011 15:14

Aah,I have some of those somewhere......probably in the scary understairs cupboard where everything gets launched put

yes yes to denim hotpants! Wear them with thick tights, black or coloured, brogues and a blouse or leggings, sweater and converse - topshop do a high waisted pair - vair forgiving on post baby tummies.
here

Hassled · 29/01/2011 15:21

If you're slim and look 25 then do it. Not sure about the lace bits around the hems but the tights/shorts look is a good one, I think.

tethersend · 29/01/2011 15:24

Yes to hotpants and thick tights

A thousand times no to hotpants and leggings.

missthing · 29/01/2011 15:34

oh no tether! why not?...

FluffyMummy123 · 29/01/2011 15:37

i love it
dont wear it as am too old

legginGs btw

tethersend · 29/01/2011 15:39
  1. The hotpants cut your silhouette in two- the leggings cut it again, leaving even Naomi Campbell with stumpy looking pegs.
  1. Leggings are shit and look cheap.
  1. If you are going to wear something as daring as hotpants, then go with it! Don't try and play it safe by wearing over leggings, it looks awful and shows just as much as tights would only without the style.
Meggles76 · 29/01/2011 15:41

If you are going to go for this look, I would go for tweed or charcoal wool shorts with thick black opaque tights and a heeled shoe boot.

Denim hot pants (esp with lace are the reserve of the very young)

TitsalinaBumSquash · 29/01/2011 15:47

I wear black hotpants with coloured tights and ballet pumps, im a curvy size 14 and im 23 but look a lot younger.

Although we must take into account the fact that I don't give a shite what people think I look like! Grin

vesela · 29/01/2011 21:35

Go for it. I think hotpants - esp. denim ones - and tights look good. Tailored shorts and tights, on the other hand, is an awful look.

lucysmam · 30/01/2011 13:03

Cod, I debated putting the G on the end, then decided it looked wrong so didn't bother.

Thank-you all for your opinions, I'm going to wear my ankle pixie Grin boots into town & take my pumps as well. & a pair of chunky tights that I have lurking in with my socks to see what they look like.

If I feel like a twat I'll probably leave it but am determined to try it out and see what I look like.

I'll have a look for a plainer pair without the lacy bits though, I think
