Primer recommendations?

Saw L'Oréal Studio Secrets advertised on TV and decided I need a primer. Has anyone tried it?

Is Smashbox worth the money- that's the only one I've seen mentioned in MN forums. Any recommendations for something kind of natural would be nice, as these things all seem to have lots of silicone-based ingredients.

I get dry skin, so not a big fan of powdery stuff. I'd mostly wear it under Clinique Superbalanced Makeup to try and hide enlarged pores and fine lines.

clarins also do a foundation with the primer already in it
called instant smooth foundation-it is fab

but must admit primer plus foundation lasts longer on face than clarins instant smooth foundation

Asked at the Clinique counter at was recommended city block and given advice on how to apply foundation to disguise pores (pressing in with side of brush). Seems to be working- less foundation needed so lovely natural effect.

I've been using the Laura Mercier one for the last month and not really noticed a lot of difference. It was £27 for the medium sized tube. I'm using Chantecaille foundation over it and have not noticed any dramatic differences - good job the foundation is a sample as would have been very annoyed at paying out so much for what seems like a tinted moisturiser.
