I am desperately bored of looking at my self in the mirror and actually just bored in general. At the moment i have long dark brown hair and am thinking of going red, very red. The type of red that requires bleaching first.
I know its fucks up your hair and im not sure i would pull it off.
Also would this mean a total image overhaul would i need new clothes etc...help.

def the cut ...maybe not the pillar box red unless you're sure it suits your skintone

bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 14:30

no idea sorry
have you googled hairdye..loads of info on it
I am trrying to decide whaat dye to get so have been googling a lot lately.

sh77 · 28/01/2011 14:34

Yeah do it. good enough reason. I have thought the same haven't got the nerve for a short crop haircut, which I would love.

If the red screws up, you can always dye it back again.

TrillianAstra · 28/01/2011 14:37

Why else do people put ridiculous colours on their hair, other than because they are bored?

bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 15:13

Ridiculous? Sad Oh well im only 22 if i don't do ridiculous now when can i?

ditavonteesed · 28/01/2011 15:51

well I am 36 and my hair is pilllarbox red and cropped, this time last year it was really long and black, I was bored.

TrillianAstra · 28/01/2011 16:11

Oh no, I meant the good sort of ridiculous!

People dye their hair blonde or brunette to hide grey or because they don't want to be mousey, but you dye your hair red or purple because you are bored and it is fun.

TrillianAstra · 28/01/2011 16:12

Being bored is exactly the right reason to dye your hair redredred.

prettywhiteguitar · 28/01/2011 16:13

yes being bored is a very good reason :)

maybe go to a hairdresser if you can afford it and tell them you like to change your hair lots

they will love you

bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 16:27

Any regretes? And did you have to bleech first. Does it fade really quickly?

OP posts:
bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 16:29

My massive concern is looking to 'trendy'. how do i avoid this?

OP posts:
PuraVida · 28/01/2011 16:30

hmm i'd think twice, i had lovely long, think blonde hair, all swishy and delish, and boredom led me to try the 'mumsnet haircut'

now i've got a fucking mullet

bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 16:32

You all have mullets? Shock Confused

TragicallyHip · 28/01/2011 16:37

Being bored is a good reason to dye it. I used to dye my hair different colours all the time because I was bored of looking the same all the time.

Go for it and if it doesn't suit dye it again! I would go to the hairdressers tho and not do it yourself!

TragicallyHip im worried that your name suggests you might be 'trendy'. I don't think i have the dedication to pull off 'trendy'.

Also with a ridiculous hair colour does one have to make a special effort and be for ever well groomed or end up looking like a washed up raver?

OP posts:
ditavonteesed · 28/01/2011 17:32

edo need to bleach first, doenst fade to quick. Think you need yto make less effort as you automaticsally look funky, looks great with full make up though.
am trying to decide waht to do with mine next.

sh77 · 28/01/2011 19:38

shiny pl post a pic or describe a MN haircut so that I can avoid.

bestmama as you are 22, that is even more reason. What are you worried about?

TragicallyHip · 28/01/2011 19:43

Yes I am trendy now

When I was younger with different hair colours I most certainly wasn't! Grin

I'm sure you won't end up like a washed up old raver! It will just depend on the colour and cut as to how much maintenance you will need to do.

Remember tho that if you bleach and then dye it red it will fade pretty quickly so you will have to up keep the colour by dying fairly often.

PuraVida that made me chuckle too, sorry!

bestmamaderwelt · 28/01/2011 20:49

Iv had a few duff hair colour choices including pink. So does this mean there is hop for me yet?
